Sure, I believe there's a thread on this forums about Stargate already, but Stargate Atlantis is more than just a spin-off of that show for me.

So far, I find it to be better than the original, not that often for spin-offs imo.

After having seen only several episodes on the television (and due to my own lazy nature, missing out on a lot more), I was only too happy to watch a friend's DVD set of the first three seasons and I have to admit I am very impressed.

The original series had decent characters and at least during the first six or seven seasons, decent stories too. But Stargate Atlantis for me have better characters, actors and stories.

The villains are more interesting, the interaction between the team members (as the structure of the original show is pretty much kept the same, one gate and one main team, with more happening at the "homefront" this time) is more fun, the mood of the show is a bit more dire though and it all struck me as a bit harsher, especially Sheppard is a lot more coldblooded than Jack O'Neill.

The new team is pretty much a carboncopy of the original team but at least they made it work and not make it feel too much like it being just a copy.

Ofcourse, I've only seen the first three seasons and some episodes of the fourth so far. It isn't really fair to compare a ten year show with one that is still running and has only four ones so far. The first four or so series of Stargate were pretty good too, not many bad episodes in them either.

Sad episode near the end of the third season, but it was a very brilliant episode though, and in the world of the stargate show, nothing is always 100% as it seems nor as definite as people would think apparently.

I just hope they won't let it become like the original show, season 9 and 10 were not good, nor was the very disappointing movie Ark of Truth. Even Claudia Black and Ben Browder couldn't save that.

Forgot to add: if I were forced to chose between Stargate Atlantis and the other top science fiction show Battlestar Galactica, my choice would be easy. BSG might have had a superior first year, after that the show became too erratic and the fourth (and final) season isn't promising much better.
Smasharoo might be putting it a little too blunt imo, he's not that far off with his comments.

I voted Atlantis. Only saw the 1st season but it showed much more promise then the original series did. The only season I liked from Stargate SG-1 was the replicator wars (season 8 I beleive).

Yeah, Altantis has become it's own show and done much better than the original as far as I can see. 10 years, wow. There is still plenty to tell.

Hrmmm, sorry, I prefer Original with Jack O'Neil. I wouldnt choose BSG over these two as well. I would choose B5 though. Well, at least the first 4 seasons anyway.

SG-1 is the second greatest show in the history of ever. Atlantis is a very very close third.

Firefly is #1.

If you mean the Lorne Greene BSG, I agree with you.

I've never seen the attraction myself. I haven't seen all episodes though as the show never aired here on regular tv, but I saw a lot on the scifi channel I had access to for a couple of weeks. I did see the movie, perhaps a second and third season would have made me like it more.

I've seen the first season but got the second one ready to watch soon. The first episode of that second season was not very inspiring though, but plenty more to watch.

Hang in there, it does get much better. Especially once Sinclair leaves, and Sheridan replaces him. Too bad Sheridan had to leave and whats her face took over, it really went to **** at that point.

I love me some Star Gate but I could never choose one over the other. I own all 10 seasons for SG1 and the 3 seasons for SGA. I love the action in SGA but I love the characters in SG1. Teal'c and Colonel O'niell are just too funny.

SGA does show some wonderful promise though I'm afraid season 5 will be the end. I hope it's not but we are getting down to the end of the Replicator/Wraith war. Maybe we'll find a NEW galaxy? Doubtful.

I just hope they don't go the way they did in Stargate, I really don't like the Ori. Sometimes it's better they just finish it decently instead of either being cut off (like Farscape or Angel) or dragging it out too long.

Amanda Tapping has been quoted that fans can expect at least two more seasons. I really cant remember where I read all of this, but in the same article it is hinted that the Wraith are indeed down for the count in the next season. The replicators on the other hand wont be down, and will appear from time to time, but not as the huge threat they were in the last season. A "new" threat will rear its ugly head however, and they gave no hints as to its nature.

On a completely different note, it appears that Smallville will be saying good bye to Lex Luthor next season. He wont be dead, but he wont be a central character anymore. Say hello to Doomsday though. Also a character that left at some point in the past few seasons will be back.

Lastly, a rumor is spreading that depending on the success/failure of the Star Trek movie, another series may be coming to the small screen next year.

The new movie might be a success, return to Kirk and Spock, even if at a younger age might appeal to people, young and old.

It would be interesting to see what new series they might create, although I would hope then they wouldn't continue with the whole young Kirk and Spock thing.

Ohh! Awesome. I'll have to check that out. I'm glad to hear of a 2 more season rumor.
