How many pages a week?Follow

#1 Nov 30 2007 at 5:46 AM Rating: Good
I was wondering, how many pages a week do you guys read? You all seem to have insane book collections.

I read about 400 Pages a week. due to school, friends and gaming time, I can only read in Study Hall and from 11 to Midnight or so before I go to bed.

It all depends really, I try to read about a book a week, but at times I barely read a couple of hundred pages.

I work with small bursts, periods of time in which I do a lot of reading. Combined with a lot of dry spells, or speedreading.

Well, most of the time I read an hour in bed before going to sleep. So around 300 pages a week I think. Really depends if the book can get to me or not.

Wow. I've never been THAT desperate. When I run out of new stuff (which is almost never. my backlog is immense) I just reread something.

What happens is I'll buy 2-4 books at a time, and then I won't realize I'm done w/them all till I'm well... done! I guess I could re-read something, but it's hard when I know there's a nice new novel waiting for me just a 10 min drive away :)

Depends, i travel on the train alot and that gives me about 6 hours a week to kill, thats usually enough to finish a book, i average about 120 pages an hour, but thne i read very very fast.

When i was at sea i could read a book (3-400 pages) a day without to much trouble.

If I sit down with absolutely nothing to do, I can usually finish a book within a few hours or so. If I really like the book I will probably be done in about 7 hours or so(I think that's how quickly I finished the Deathly Hallows.)

It's kind of the same for me. I'll go a month or two of reading anything I can get my hands on, and then I'll go a few months without reading anything.

As for when I'm reading, it usually depends on how interested I am in the book. For my ongoing series, I typically zoom through new books that I've been waiting a long time for. Such as the newest Terry Goodkind book, Confessor, I read through all 603 pages in just under 12 hours because I couldn't put the damned thing down. Last book of that series too v_v

I would have to say most of my adult life I averaged about 2,400 pages a week.

I've REALLY slowed down now though, because I"m playing MMOs and forum surfing instead. There days I limit myself to new books by my best loved authors, and the occaisional splurge on something new.

I can barely get through 300 pages a week at this point. Before I my girls were born I could get through 2 books a week, but now I'm lucky to get through 1 a month. I miss the days when I could sit down and read the Lord of the Rings in 5 days.

If I'm just reading something over again, I'll only read a chapter or two a night. If I'm reading something new, I'll go right through it in a couple days. Because of this my pages per week tend to vary greatly. If I had to put a number on it, I suppose it would average to about 360-400 a week.

There are a few factors that determine how many pages for me.

1. Is the book well written? A good book I can plow through, a bad one, if I have to force myself to finish it may take longer.

2. How many books do I have waiting after the one I am reading? If I have many books to read after the current one, I will read faster, if not, I will enjoy the book and drag it out a bit longer.

3. If I am reading from a certain author, I tend to read them fast. Maybe 2 days for the whole book. An author whose work I am reading for the first time may take longer until I get used to their personal style.

In general I don't see it as pages per day.

I started and finished Kris Longknife Defiant today in about 4 hours. I have a bad habit of once I start a book I can't put it down until it's finished.

I enjoy that series. It's good fun stuff without any glaring bad writing.

I am hit or miss now. Really dependant on free time. I can average a book a day when I am just lazing about, sometimes its a book a month if I am busy.
