Has anyone read any thing by this guy? He wrote tons of books but it seems like no one has ever heard of him. He's pretty weird but he's written a lot of really good stuff.

I'm bumping this up since I didn't see it before.

I knew Jack as a friend at the Baltimore Science Fiction society for a few years before he died and I'm still friends with his widow Eva. My oldest is friends with one of their sons. Jack was great guy to listen to as he told stories about past writers. He seem to known everyone in SF Fandom. I still miss him when I go to the club house and Balticon.

Yet I haven't read any of his books still. I keep meaning to, but then find other books in BSFS's library, get sidetrack by friends and then I am too rush by my ride to leave after meetings. Plus Jonwin and I have habit of forgetting to bring books back for months. Sue been better at stamping books, so at least I can tell them apart. them from those in our own collection.

The Well of souls series, especially the first 5 books, are excellent. The series does degrade a bit in the latter books, but its still a very good read!

I still think the Well World would make the coolest MMORPG setting ever.

Bump. Only because I just recently started going to this forum, so there. I read a 4 book series of his. The titles were:

Lilith: A Snake in the Grass
Cerberus: A Wolf in the Fold
Charon: A Dragon at the Gate
Medusa: A Tiger by the Tail

They were pretty cool back then (early 1980s?). I am sure they are pretty dated now.

I also enjoyed The Four Lords of the Diamond (the book club edition that included Lilith and the others mentioned in the last post), but it was a long time ago and I don't remember that much about it.

wow. I thought he was a well known fantasy writer, had no clue that even people that regularly read fantasy books seem to not read much Chalker.

He is in a three way tie for my fav authors: Chalker, Stephen R. Donaldson, and Weis/Hickman duo. I know it seems blasphemous, but Tolkien gets relegated to 2nd place for me.... the story is incredible, but the writing is sometimes a chore to wade through.

Some good Chalker series include: Soulrider, Four Lords of the Diamond, and Rings of the Master.
