I'm halfway through book four right now, and I have to say this is quickly becoming one of my favorite series of books. I was never a big Stephen King fan 'til I bought The Stand at an airport bookstore last year and read the whole thing on my flight.
Anyway, I was wondering if there are any other Dark Tower fans on here. I know there's also a line of comic books out there that they recently started making (a few months ago, I think). The first book, The Gunslinger was a little hard to read. I didn't really like the writing style but he apparently wrote it when he was young, and the second book has a lot more fluid writing style (at least in my opinion). Also, if I remember correctly, he wrote what is now The Gunslinger as serials for a magazine, which may explain why the later books (which were written as books) flow better.

That is what I heard, but I dont reading long series, I always mix up the books. Hell I even read Black House first.

Dark Tower series is awesome. After you finish seven, don't be surprised if you're tempted to go out and read certain other books for the connections.
So far the comics are great too. 1-7 have beautiful artwork and tell the story of Roland in Mejis aka most of the story from "Wizard and Glass."

Since I read it that one time, I wore out the binding in that paperback and bought a second copy. It's my second favorite book ever, with the first being Catch 22 by Joseph Heller.
I started reading them as they were released up til about book 3 or 4. I really need to go back and re-read the first few and finish up the series. Been a SK fan since about 6th grade (actually ended up with a detention for bringing one of his books to class

I actually did that. The sheer number of references to it in his other books is amazing, especially given that most of those were written before the series was ever finished.
I've been reading them a while. I was disappointed with the 5th and 6th ones, and I'm reading the 7th now.
Is there a boxed set available yet? I read the first two, missed three, and didn't want to continue until I'd read it. Now I can't find it.

I read the Gunslinger when it first came out and loved it; the series is my favorite and I think I've read nearly all of his books. As much as I loved, and still love, The Stand, I think the Dark Tower series surpasses it. You don't have to be a fan to like them, but a true fan will recognize the many references to other stories throughout all of his books, and how they all seem to be tied together somehow.

I have this...compulsion that when I start a series I simply have to finish it. And by finish it I mean read all the off shoots as well. This obsessive compulsive disorder is part of the reason I've collected comics since I was 9, have to complete any and all TV/Movie/Anime Series' from start to finish, and have a massive music collection. Given that Mr. King has diarhea of the type writer, reading all the books that're connected to the Dark Tower is quite the daunting task.
I've read the ones in itallics.

And despite the horrid movie they made out of Dreamcatcher, the book was pretty good good. The shit weasels were much scarier in my imagination, heh.

Quick question... any idea how From a Buick 8 and Cell are related to The Dark Tower? I can't figure it out for the life of me. I've read a bunch on that list where the connection is really obvious, but those two have me stumped.
My one real issue with the Dark Tower (semi-spoilers, but nothing you'll actually understand if you haven't gotten to the point I'm referring to) is that the painter felt like a big 'ol deus ex machina to me. Popped in out of nowhere, saved the day, and disappeared.
The series as a whole was great though. Wizard and Glass was by far my favorite book, I'll have to go back and re-read it sometime. It's probably the only one in the series that could stand on its own.
I liked Cell until the very end, but it was better than most books I've read. The Stand was good too, and I liked the movie(s) also, but book was better.
I didnt read all the crap at the end of the 6th book, after I realized it wasnt part of the story. I thought it was pretty dumb how the 6th one ended so abruptly, and barely mentioned some of the main characters. So far I'm liking the 7th book, but its jumping around a lot.
I dont about where you live Samira, but theres usually a few copies of The Dark Tower series in the book stores around me. I just bought the last few in the print with pictures, but thers the compact paperbacks for each one in stock.

Just curious, where did you get this list from? Is it published somewhere or is it of your own making? Because, I think there are more than this.
I haven't read From a Buick 8 and it's been too long ago since I read Cell to remember what the connection was, now I'm gonna have to go look...
There was just a broken ridable toy-train in cell called Blaine the Mono that looked evil.
TDS on Wiki At the bottom it shows which books have references to these. If you look at their wikis it should say what they are. Its clever that theres so many references, but I think he was borrowing from everything when finishing up this series.

Stephen King is a great writer; outside of the DT series, I have read every one of his books (including Bachman). I love the Dark Tower series, although, like you, I am only on book four.
Btw, From a Buick 8 is connected to DT because the car is a vehicle of one of the "low men" from the "Everything's Eventual" book.

The Stand is an amazing book; my favorite of all time probably.
Still, at something like 1300 pages, he must have had a really long flight. But yes, when I first started reading this book, I'd read from 8PM-5AM and not even realize it lol.
Read the entire series, along with all King books actually, and it is definitely not my favourite of his.
It's still good though, apart from book 5 which I just completely dislike. Book 6 was better, but several things just didn't feel right. Rushed even.
And then there was book 7, with the best and worst of the series. Won't say what it is, plenty of it has been debated to death on several boards. Not the ending though, imo, that's pretty good and fitting, but several other elements of it are truly poorly done.
