I apologize if a similar thread has been posted already, I scanned back a few pages and didn't see anything.

Is anyone else addicted to her books? I love all her Valdemar books..the way all the different series can stand alone, but also tie in with all the others.

So far I have:

Arrows of the Queen
Arrow's Flight
Arrow's Fall

The Oathbound
Oathbreaker
Oathblood

Magic's Pawn
Magic's Promise
Magic's Price

Winds of Fate
Winds of Change
Winds of Fury

By the Sword
Take a Thief
Exile's Honor
Exile's Valor
Brightly Burning

Yeah...more than a tad addicted. Anyone else even heard of the books?

Edit: Yay, 100 posts! :P

me! Me!

I've read through the entirety of Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar series multiple times. That's one heck of an awesome series to re-read over and over again and since there are so many books, it could be a significant time sync.

You look as though you're missing the entire storms series though - Storms plus the Gryphons set and the Owls.

Almost a tie-in, though I'm not sure how - Anne McAffree's series around Pern. Kicks some serious butt.

I haven't really picked anything up by Mercedes Lackey except for the collaboration she did w/Andre Norton on the Halfblood Chronicles, that was awesome tho /nod :)

There isn't much that could beat the Pern series :)

Usually when I'm going through my re-reading phase, I'll read Mercedes Lackey and then swing over to Anne McCaffree. McAffree has a more scientific style of writing and takes a bit of adjusting to when going from Mercedes Lackey - which is somewhat the purpose of the switch.

What would you recommend as a starting point if I decide to go pick up a Mercedes Lackey book?

I've only read the 'Outstretched shadow' by her, wasn't all that bad. Not sure if I'ld go and find more of her though.

I'm not a huge fan of the valdemar books, though I did like some of the more recent stand alone ones like Burning Brightly and Take a Thief.

I tend to like her stand alone books and looser series more. I really like what she's been doing in recent years with the fairy tale retellings (black swan, gates of sleep, phoenix and ashes...)

Some people would say that the best place would be to start with the Arrows series.

Arrows Flight, Arrows of the Queen, and Arrows Fall

You could really get your feet wet with the Magics trilogy, Magic's Pawn, Magics Promise, Magic's Price.

From there, it's a flood, you could go with any of the trilogies or duos and be very happy and enjoy the reading. A lot of the books reference between various different tales, so you seriously could bounce around a LOT without sacrificing the integrity.

Yeah, I know I'm still missing some...but I'm a poor college student >.<

They are so much fun to re-read..especially after you've read a few of her books that you hadn't read the first time you read aforementioned book. There's so much that ties into her other books, that you don't even realize half the time. Yeah, I'm addicted, lol. Any reccomendations for the next series from her I should buy? :P

I really enjoyed the Diana Tregarde novels. Too bad she will not be doing any more of them.

The Ship who sang ( with Anne McCafferty ) was awsome.

Ever read McCaffrey's Acorna series? I was surprised at the style variation from her Pern series. It's a lot more Lackey

Acorna is great :) I didn't even realize that newer ones had come out in the last couple years,(how I missed 3 Anne McCaffrey books i'll never know lol). I just started on Acorna's children: First Watch a couple days ago, it's awesome!

I read the first one back when it first came out but I wasn't impressed enough to go read the rest.

Just thinking about it - McCaffrey is dead. Accorna's children must be by her son - the same one who picked up and continued writing tales for Pern and a few of her other series.

Anyone know if he started working like his mother did - as in the Marion Zimmer Bradley coauthored novels?

Misty’s arrow books have been a favorite of mine since they came out. I can’t count the number of times I’ve re-read them. My mother was a typical romance reader. But then I corrupted her. Woo Hoo! *smiles* She really got into Misty’s books as well. My favorites are the magic’s pawn trilogy.

Misty is a local writer. I knew her from the local fandom community before she became an author. I remember bumping into her at a B Dalton bookstore and we talked about this short story she hoped would soon be published, her first short story to be published. It’s rather nice having a local author who’s books I really enjoy. I’ve not seen her in years, but I think Misty still lives in the same funky house. It’s a dome house, but at one point the owners thought they’d have a hard time selling a dome, so they had a fake frame house built around it. Talk about a house with personality. I love it.

Both my mother and I really enjoyed Sacred Ground, which dealt with Native American magic. We kept hoping that Misty would write a sequel. But as that book was published in 1995 and there has yet to be a sequel published I expect its doubtful there ever will be.

If anyone wants to learn more about her books, this is a nice link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes_Lackey

I’m also a huge fan of Anne McAffree's dragon rider books. I’ve read my copies so often the pages are falling out. I’ve read several of her SF novels as well, but none of them have hooked me like her dragon books. My three favorites are Dragon Song, Dragon Singer and White Dragon.

Just ordered Arrows of the Queen from amazon. (Couldn't find any coupon codes ; ;)Hopefully it'll help get me back into reading. Used to be an avid reader(read: took home 8 books at a time from the local library) before I started FFXI Smiley: glare

Update: Just grabbed the Storms series, midway through the second book now...yay!

I picked up the first book in Mage Storms. On page 13. Seems like it will be a good read.

Now that I look at her wikipedia page. I am wondering, should I start with Arrows of the queen? And go on from there? Or will I be OK with Storm Warning?

Edit: Ya I think I need to change my book. I didn't realize the Mage Storms trilogy was included in a BIG series.
