Done. Hurry up guys.

Halfway there, reading pretty fast as I don't really like it so far. Don't wait for me though, I can finish it very quickly if need be.

You don't like it? I do agree it's got it's slow moments, but the overall story I like very much. I indeed felt like it was a mix between LOTR and 1984 at start, but it changed quickly after Kellen left Armethalieh.

They do need to set the characters in this book, so I always forgive a 1st book to be a bit slower.

I won't get into it now, topic for the debate thread naturally, it's an impression halfway through. It can easily change later on!
(do doubt that though)

Finished. And less than impressed with it. /shake fist!

Ahh, you aren't? I did like it. So the score is 2-1, what do you think Cami?
#107 Aug 20 2007 at 12:56 PM Rating: Excellent
Cami doesn't count. She's a girl. Girl's can't even vote.
#108 Aug 20 2007 at 11:40 PM Rating: Excellent
Well, guess thats the final score then :). So you guys aren't going to read the other 2 books then?

So, we are all done I believe. So I guess we can start discussing this book, right?
#109 Aug 21 2007 at 7:57 AM Rating: Excellent
Sure thing, close enough to finishing it. Separate thread or continue in this one?
#110 Aug 21 2007 at 2:05 PM Rating: Excellent
I say other thread, we can decide on the next one in here. I say let them read a book from a Dutch writer which isn't translated in English :)

Wim Gijssen I believe isn't usually translated, he's written a couple of good science fiction books. Would be fun, but I think we'ld be discussing it alone then :)

Also not a lot of Dutch fantasy/science fiction writers, definitely not decent ones at that.

I'll have to look Wim up then, but I wouldn't care if the book was good or not. Just having Cami and Brill posting WTF???? would be good enough :P

Edit: Totally forgot to mention they delivered the 2nd book today.

As it happens, I went to a rummage sale today, found two Wim Gijssen books! Pretty rare to even find those anymore, apart from some libraries Smiley: glare

With titles such as: "De echo van de bazuin" and "Het brein in de krabnevel" and the fact that they were published in the seventies, that might give an indication of how good they are though. I've read worse science fiction, but still.

And how's that second book?

I'll look in to them when I bump into it.
Not much progress on the 2nd book yet. If the weather is good this week, planning on getting some reading done.

Are you guys getting the second book? Otherwise maybe we start discussing which is the next book?
#119 Aug 28 2007 at 12:45 PM Rating: Excellent
I'm not getting the second book. I didn't like the first one enough to continue reading the series. But that's just me.
#120 Aug 28 2007 at 1:09 PM Rating: Excellent
So that would mean we need to get a new book. I'll start digging. You guys ofcourse already read all the Forgoten Realm books there are?
#121 Aug 28 2007 at 1:12 PM Rating: Excellent
I'ld go with a different book too to be honest.

Fantasy only or preferably I guess? Anyone read "Mistress of Dragons" by Margaret Weis?
#122 Aug 28 2007 at 1:19 PM Rating: Excellent
Has a 2-3 weeks delevery on Bol.com :(
#123 Aug 28 2007 at 1:31 PM Rating: Excellent
It's definitely published in Dutch, got the paperback version myself. Just never got around to reading it.
#124 Aug 28 2007 at 1:38 PM Rating: Excellent
Drakenvrouwe?
#125 Aug 28 2007 at 1:39 PM Rating: Good
I say let GieG pick this one so he can try to snag a book he doesn't have to wait a month or two trying to track one down.
#126 Aug 28 2007 at 1:48 PM Rating: Excellent
I'm way behind you guys for reading fantasy. I guess most of what I can come up with you guys already read. But I always can try and dig something up.
