Dragonlance SagaFollow

I stopped reading partway through the Preludes, I think. Book after crappy book of what read like Dragonlance fanfic got old in a hurry. The only ones beyond the first two trilogies worth looking at were the well-written Legend of Huma and Kaz the Minotaur. I never did read the Weis & Hickman return with Summer Flame.

So, out of what I did read, I'd have to go with Dragons of Winter Night for much the same reasons as people say The Empire Strikes Back was the best of the Star Wars movies.

They took 1 decent set of books and made a utterly rubbish gameing world out of it

forgottem realms on the other hand took a decent gaming world and wrote 1 decent set of books and a lot of very mediocre ones..

The only Dragonlance books worth even picking up are the two main trilogies and the sequal mentioned. The rest should be burnt for crimes against fantasy writeing.

I'm still waiting for the sequel to Brother's in Arms. One day...I yearn for more Raislin some days...

To be honest I think the series by Weis and Hickman was good, a fun read that went smothly and effortlessly(got to love Tas too), but the other books that I've read were just plain...uninteresting.

I think that the best book that I've read would not be Dragons of Summer Flame...it ended too fast...a lot of good story, and you did feel as if you were rushing toward something, but the end was just too fast. I think that Dragons of a Vanish Moon was good, but not the best, number two maybe...Test of the Twins would be my number one, just because of the realization of what we can lose if we're too self absorbed in our lives, rather than the people in our lives, and that we can destroy everything that we hold dear. The redemption of Raistlin at the end was one of the greatest moments in a book that I think I've ever read. You could see that in the end, he does love his brother, and I think the tie-up with Kitiara, Tanis, and Soth was needed as well, and done in a fitting fashion.

The only sore spots in the whole series to me was in the War of Souls trilogy. Why did so many of our heros have to die so ignominiously? Goldmoons death was needed to further the story, and was a great scene played out, but Caramon's death was rather rushed I think(he was one of the more lovable characters, and reminds me of my father). Tas finally died in the way he was "meant" to(I haven't read the new books yet, but I imagine that he'll pop up at some point, he did leave the series with the Device of Time Journeying after all, and we all know that Tas will never truely die). I'm looking forward to the new stories, but I've been to busy with other things to pick them up.

I remember reading a few weeks ago that Weis and Hickman were releasing another book in that series. Is there any truth to this or is it just a rumor?

"Dark Chronicles", it deals with the time between defeating Verminaard (end of book one of the 'Chronicles') and the start of book two, when they bring a relic to the Dwarves as a 'payment' for the relocation of a whole bunch of humans. It's basically the search for that relic that is told, which should include a whole lot about Raistlin's journey to the dark side I suppose.

I agree about the Dragonlance books! They are one of the best series I've ever read. I tend to like the writing of Weis and Hickman the best, but each story or series has its own flavor. I don't think I could name a favorite though. I'm really disgusted that we loaned our entire series out (over 50 books)to someone who then moved and never returned them. I haven't had the heart to start collecting them again.

An animated film of Dragons of Autumn Twilight supposedly in the works. Kiefer Sutherland as Raistlin Majere, Lucy Lawless as Goldmoon and Phil LaMarr as the voice of Riverwind!

Official movie site which is near worthless. Also, it sounds as if it'll be a DVD offering in the United States and not on the big screen.

I aswell, I have been waiting for a DL movie for awhile, eversince they did LoR I figured they would look into DL

I liked any books that had Fistandantilus in them, or even mentioned Fist, or any books with the twins, but if you havent read the chronicles yet, I suggest reading those right away, the three main books...

Or Test/time/war-of the twins -I know not in that order..its been awhile- those books are great though.

I have read the chornicles the legends adn almost done with the war of souls.

LOL, looked at the site, your right there isn't much on it, but hey... Keifer Sutherland is going to be playing Raistlin *la drool. I'm buying it!

It would be interesting if it did go live action, who would be big enough to play Caramon or Riverwind? Visualize it.
