What is your favorite Dragonlance book/series? Its a hard choice for me personally but I think Dragons of a Fallen Sun, Lost Star, and Vanished Moon. But maybe Summer Flame. Damn its a hard choice.

I stopped reading partway through the Preludes, I think. Book after crappy book of what read like Dragonlance fanfic got old in a hurry. The only ones beyond the first two trilogies worth looking at were the well-written Legend of Huma and Kaz the Minotaur. I never did read the Weis & Hickman return with Summer Flame.

So, out of what I did read, I'd have to go with Dragons of Winter Night for much the same reasons as people say The Empire Strikes Back was the best of the Star Wars movies.

The first Dragonlance book I read was Dragon of a Summer Flame. That one did inspire me to find the whole Chronicle trilogy, which was much better. After that, the Twins trilogy and the War of the Soul trilogy, then Soulforge and Brothers in Arms. I haven't actually read much of Dragonlance that Weis or Hickman haven't written, but the first is the best. I hated War of the Soul trilogy to be honest, which would be your choice, tastes differ naturally Smiley: smile.

All in all I have to agree with Jophiel, Dragons of a Winter Time is the best I've read.

Ahhh Dragonlance...

They took 1 decent set of books and made a utterly rubbish gameing world out of it

forgottem realms on the other hand took a decent gaming world and wrote 1 decent set of books and a lot of very mediocre ones..

The only Dragonlance books worth even picking up are the two main trilogies and the sequal mentioned. The rest should be burnt for crimes against fantasy writeing.

Well, I wouldn't put it so strongly myself Smiley: smile

I just finished "Amber and Iron", the second part of the Dark Disciple trilogy by Weis on her own. Although it was still better than the War of the Soul trilogy, there are plenty of things wrong with it or just plain too predictable.

But I also read the first chapter of the new trilogy "Dark Chronicles" by Weis and Hickman. Apparently, judging on this chapter alone mind you, it will be about the time the original group spent after they defeated the Dragonlord Verminaard and the wedding of Goldmoon.

Not so sure this is a good idea, those characters are gone. There could be a twist, perhaps others know more about it. It's released July this year.

I'm still waiting for the sequel to Brother's in Arms. One day...I yearn for more Raislin some days...

To be honest I think the series by Weis and Hickman was good, a fun read that went smothly and effortlessly(got to love Tas too), but the other books that I've read were just plain...uninteresting.

I think that the best book that I've read would not be Dragons of Summer Flame...it ended too fast...a lot of good story, and you did feel as if you were rushing toward something, but the end was just too fast. I think that Dragons of a Vanish Moon was good, but not the best, number two maybe...Test of the Twins would be my number one, just because of the realization of what we can lose if we're too self absorbed in our lives, rather than the people in our lives, and that we can destroy everything that we hold dear. The redemption of Raistlin at the end was one of the greatest moments in a book that I think I've ever read. You could see that in the end, he does love his brother, and I think the tie-up with Kitiara, Tanis, and Soth was needed as well, and done in a fitting fashion.

The only sore spots in the whole series to me was in the War of Souls trilogy. Why did so many of our heros have to die so ignominiously? Goldmoons death was needed to further the story, and was a great scene played out, but Caramon's death was rather rushed I think(he was one of the more lovable characters, and reminds me of my father). Tas finally died in the way he was "meant" to(I haven't read the new books yet, but I imagine that he'll pop up at some point, he did leave the series with the Device of Time Journeying after all, and we all know that Tas will never truely die). I'm looking forward to the new stories, but I've been to busy with other things to pick them up.

I am a huge DL fan. I have been reading them for years and have to say that I was utterly disappointed with Dragons of a Fallen Sun, Lost Star, and Vanished Moon as well as the newest series Margaret Weis came out with.

I am anticipating Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickmans next series which will be a lot of the stuff that they had to cut out of the original series... and a book about Raistlin and getting his black robes!

My favorites are:
Soulforge (have read it about 6 times over the years)
Dragons of a Summer Flame (I dont know why but I love this book)
Legends and Chronicles series

Hehe I a probably to huge of a dragonlance fan. This is why:

I remember reading a few weeks ago that Weis and Hickman were releasing another book in that series. Is there any truth to this or is it just a rumor?

"Dark Chronicles", it deals with the time between defeating Verminaard (end of book one of the 'Chronicles') and the start of book two, when they bring a relic to the Dwarves as a 'payment' for the relocation of a whole bunch of humans. It's basically the search for that relic that is told, which should include a whole lot about Raistlin's journey to the dark side I suppose.

I have read many books in the Dragonlance series in the twentys I am sure. And while nothing will compare to the core book by Weis and Hickman I find all the offshoots very exciting. And they usually do keep the characters true to form as well. I think some people immediately degrade a book just b/c it's not the main book. Any of the books directly related to Kender are just a breeze and have many light and funny moments... such as the revealing of the entire story of the mammoth and the gnome. I am unsure as to while more people do not like like new series I am happy they advanced the story I mean people come and go live and die and that's how the story should progress while the main favorite players in the story have left us many great new characters have inhabited the world. Weis also has began a book solo further developing the story after the events of War of Souls trilogy.

I agree about the Dragonlance books! They are one of the best series I've ever read. I tend to like the writing of Weis and Hickman the best, but each story or series has its own flavor. I don't think I could name a favorite though. I'm really disgusted that we loaned our entire series out (over 50 books)to someone who then moved and never returned them. I haven't had the heart to start collecting them again.

Also LOVE THESE BOOKS!!! Got me to start reading again after a long time.I grieved for these people as if I had known them my whole life. They were just ordinary people that were at the right place at the right time and somehow survived it all to make the world a better place.

An animated film of Dragons of Autumn Twilight supposedly in the works. Kiefer Sutherland as Raistlin Majere, Lucy Lawless as Goldmoon and Phil LaMarr as the voice of Riverwind! Smiley: laugh

"Great Dragon of Gabon, mon!"

Official movie site which is near worthless. Also, it sounds as if it'll be a DVD offering in the United States and not on the big screen.

This was simul-posted in the Asylum but I put it here since it's more forum appropriate

All time favorites have to be Legend of Huma, and Kaz, the Minotaur. Its been years since I've read them and I just finished my current series, so thanks! I'll dig them out and re-read lol. I've been wondering what to read next.

I liked any books that had Fistandantilus in them, or even mentioned Fist, or any books with the twins, but if you havent read the chronicles yet, I suggest reading those right away, the three main books...

Or Test/time/war-of the twins -I know not in that order..its been awhile- those books are great though.
#23 Dec 12 2006 at 2:17 PM Rating: Decent
I thought the twins trilogy was the best written, followed closely by chronicles. The Huma trilogy was ok as were the books featuring Galen the Weasel. Everything else was pretty bad. I was excited when Weis and Hickman came out with Dragons of Summer Flame, but it read very much like fanfic. I think there were just too many characters, the dead ones kep coming back, and the level of the conflict had just escalated out of control.

Yah i have been reading these books for 2yrs and love em!!!!
I have read the chornicles the legends adn almost done with the war of souls.

But by far my favorite books would have to be
The first one!!!
The new lost chapter one!!! :D

I love the DL novels, not the most intellectually challenging series of novels, but one of the most in depth ones I have read to date. I've found that you really get a sense of these characters and 'know' who they are (weis & hickman sets of course).
I wasn't impressed with Summer Flame, nor with the follow up war of souls trilogy. Actually they completely ticked me off Smiley: glare How dare they mess with MY Krynn! lol.

The original war of the lance and the the war of the twins sets are my favorites to date and I just finished reading Dragons of the Dwarven Depths which I thought was quite good as well. Looking forward to the next book in that series.

The Mina books (Amber and Iron, etc.) I am getting into, the first one was a little slow to me, the second one picked up the pace nicely and I can't wait to see how the story ends.

LOL, looked at the site, your right there isn't much on it, but hey... Keifer Sutherland is going to be playing Raistlin *la drool. I'm buying it!

It would be interesting if it did go live action, who would be big enough to play Caramon or Riverwind? Visualize it.
