Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein.

This book is a great read. I encourage all of you to pick it up. It discusses politics, punishment, voting, responsibility, and is entertaining for the action/adventure alone.

It is nothing like the movie. Actually imagine your favorite book, then take all the awesome out. Thats how they made the movie.



He was my Marine ROTC instructor. He introduced me to Troopers. He also had many more great sayings.

This books is actually on the Marine recomended reading list, or was, or will be, or somthing.

If you've ever read it you know what I mean. If you haven't it only takes a day or two because it is so short.

Heinlein is a very prolific writter and I'd recomend his other books. I've read Space Cadets, Double Star, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, and several others I can't remember right now. Most are short and quick. Suprisingly good.

I think you missed the point of Troopers.



Not to mention the suits were bada[u][/u]ss.

Ender's Game is probably my second favorite but it doesn't come anywhere near touching on the same scope of issues.

If you liked starship troopers, go read "Armor" by John Steakley. trust me on this one.

When discussing the Dean of Science Fiction one must do so with all care and respect. While Starship Troopers may not be the BEST novel in the genre, it certainly is one of the best. I have read the entire Heinlein library, and even purchased all of the movies that were made based on his books. I am secretly a highschool english teacher, so I am constantly building up my library of books, and Starship Troopers is the first book on my reading list for my grade 11 students. When I teach in the US it goes well with their US GOvenrment class, and when I teach in Canada it goes well with the Grade 11 social studies cirriculum because thats when we discuss citizenship education. Starship troopers is definitely one of the top books in the genre for a couple of reasons. One, it is so well written that it deserves every award it has ever won. Secondly, and most importantly it is so full of meaningful content for our young readers, they seem to gravitate to this book. Once one student reads it they all want it for some reason.

I would like to say that I am a huge fam of all of the Lazarus Long stories. I personally feel that his Lazarus Long stories might be the most important stories written in the last century. Time Enough for love was so compelling I read it in two nights. I had to go back and read it again right away because it was so good.

I think that I've refined my opinion some. It is certainly the best book I can think of for comunicating some ideas extremely well.

I too liked the Lazurus Long books. My roomate read Starship Troopers and was on Amazon two days later buying all of Heinlen's books. I read quite a few. I really enjoyed Double Star.

It is certainly still one of my favorites, comfortably in the Top 5... usually number 1.

And Kao: I really enjoyed Armor, I read it on a recomendation from the forward of Ender's Game.

I read all of Heinlein's stuff way back when. While I enjoyed Starship Troopers I think it rates well below Time Enough for Love and Stranger in a Strange Land

As a kid I greatly enjoyed his entire Future History series of short works.

It's not a bad book, but its one of those that tends to be a vehicle for the author to preach on his own favorite subjects. If you want an interesting counterpoint, read Joe Halderman's the forever war.
