Eragon is a terrible book, I'm sorry. Paolini should finish the third book and give up writing. Why? Well I'm not going to go into the obvious plagierism (and some pages of the book are nearly word for word from other books), or that his writing is too cliche'. A writer can use alot of cliche' and still pull off a good read.

My arguments are on his flat characters, their complete lack of personality, and Eragon's obvious Mary Sue-ism. You expect me to believe a 15 year old boy can learn how to be a master swordsman in the time span of a few months? He's supposed to have this great bond with Saphira but treats her like crap. He's not a hero, he's an ***. Every page I've read it felt like Paolini was insterting himself into the character and everything about Eragon has to be perfect. Everyone loves him in spite of him being a pompous ***, and his interactions with the characters are wholely unrealistic.

Paolini himself is a terrible writer. Examples could be found in such turns of phrase as "Sorry" Brom apologized or how he describes Arya's hair as black twice in the same paragraph. The story it's self is loosely structured and barely stays together. I loathe the characters. All of them. The only one I feel bad for is the guy on the toll bridge because he's probalby thinking ******** I've been in this scene before, and it was better written![/i]

Really I could go on, but I'm afraid I'd start foaming at the mouth.

Oh and to reiterate why Paolini is such a bad author.

He started writing Eragon when he was 15, finished it when he was around 18 I believe. No one would touch his book because of how awful it was so his parents published it for him. (whatever you might read, Chris himself comes from money.)

People tout him off as a prodigy, but he's certainly not. There have been better and younger writers than he.

Here's a contrast:

As I've said before, Paolini started when he was 15 and finished close to when he was 18. Mary Shelley was around the same age as Paolini and took roughly the same amount of time to write Frankenstein, which is infinitely more memorable, and better written.

/end haterade.

I never read the book, but about the movie: it's not that bad. But is it me or i've already heard that story before, in a galaxy far, far away?

SPOILER ALERT*** ...Pretty much everything is spoiled...

last chance. stop reading if you don't know the story.

Movie start with an king/emperor's general pursuing a princess with a stolen item. He captures her but she send the stolen thing away. It's found by a farm-boy, raised by his uncle and no knowledge of his parents.

The guy finds an old master of an ancient order and learns magic tricks from him. They go save the princess and the master dies in the hand of the evil general. Hero and princess goes find the resistance and with the help of the stolen thing, they win a fight.

The Bad Guy is from the same order as the master and betrayed and killed everyone else.

If by the end of the serie, the bad guy is the hero's father, i'll be deeply dissapointed.

END OF SPOILER***

Yeah, not a bad movie, but not really original.

Well, Eragon is a teenager, and that is a rather accurate description of every teenager I have ever interacted with.

As for the movie, I do not know if it is something I will go see. Mainly because the "faimly friendly" crap radio station I have to listen to at work is touting this movie as one of the best family movies of the year. Avril Levin is on the soundtrack... [:shudder:]

Do NOT see the movie if you've already read the book. If you HAVE read the book, you will be SOOOO angry during the movie you won't be able to appreciate the 3* out of 5* special effects, or the hotness that is Arya.

See the movie first, THEN read the book, if that option is still available.

I SERIOUSLY wanted to walk out at the very beginning of that movie for everything they did wrong. The movie is short. They COULD HAVE made it a half hour longer, and put MORE things in there from the book to make the readers happier.

I'm pissed. I want to storm the director and kick his ***.
