I was kind of waiting until later levels to post here, but something irked me today...
Knighttimes - WHM24
I had been waiting in Qufim for a while to get an invite, and he sends me one, blind. To me, blind invites are just slightly irritating him, which is why I said,
(Journal) Not to step on any toes, but ask before you invite next time.
He said okay, but didn't sound too apologetic. That's more irritating than actually lousy...
We party for a brief while, and I perform the usual NIN tasks of Utsusemi tanking. At one point, our puller gets a Pugil link and we all run to the zone. We get to an idle point where we're all just standing around, one person leaving, searching for a rep. Meanwhile, Knighttimes, party leader, engages in a conversation about how his buddy (in the pt) is gay.
Personally, I'm not homosexual, but I always wondered how a gay person would react to the typical "Hey, let's make fun of homos!" gags you here from any pubescent smartass playing on his parents' credit card. I chime in, saying,
(Journal) So did you ever wonder what it'd be like to party with a person who was actually gay?
(Journal) Like me?
So, people inquire if I'm really gay, and as I'm in the process of telling them I'm merely messing with their heads, I'm suddenly kicked from the party.
Some of the other members laugh, and I do as well, thinking it's part of a joke. Meanwhile, Knighttimes admits he's a homophobe in Say. I put my seek flag back up and expect him to reinvite me. He never does, after I wait for ten minutes, so when I get an invite from another party, I take the opportunity.
Figured if he wanted to play stupid games, he could do it without me tanking for his party. I wasn't angry at this, but still dismayed by his immaturity. It's hard enough to understand how some people can be openly homophobic, but to judge a person's presumed sexual behavior as a factor in terms of skill in playing the game? That escapes me.
I add Knighttimes to blist, thinking I'm over it...
...I was wrong.
Couple hours later, after I logged for a bit, I come back on and receive an invite from a party in Lower Delkfutt's Tower. I accept. A moment later, I notice in the log the leader asking things like "Why?" and "Can't we just give him a chance?"
I look to the party list... and sure enough, there's Knighttimes.
About half the conversation that took place while I was in transit to the tower was lost thanks to having him on my blist, but I can only assume our WHM (and his PLer) were threatening to leave if they didn't kick me. It eventually came down to one member just telling him to shut up and play the game (she also called me an idiot for some reason, which is odd because I had no idea who she was).
We get into battling Giants in the tower, and things go well. I continue to tank, and we manage well. Knighttimes' powerleveller (Massaranger) does a decent job of keeping everybody healed (if you exclude the first three rounds in which said PLer stated: "I don't heal flamers," and I was left to take damage until I went into red).
The entire time we're partying, Knighttimes keeps making a big deal about pulling constantly. Finally, he and the PLer make an unexpected jump up the stairs to the second floor.
At this point, we're battling with five members with a sixth on the way. Party consists of myself (NIN), SAM, BLM, RDM, WHM (Knighttimes), with the PLer for support. I, the tank, suddenly become the puller (which means Utsusemi is practically useless, as it fades while the mob hits you in the pull process). After a few successful battles, I take a wee bit too much damage, and bite the dust.
I say, no problem, even after the SAM apologizes for missing the backup voke. Death is nothing one should be surprised about when s/he tanks. I figure, there's a perfectly capable PLer with us who will give me a Raise at the end of the fight.
The giant eventually dies, and Knighttimes hits level 24. Party leader and myself promptly congratulate him.
No sooner than we said that, the PLer mysteriously Warps out of the tower and Knighttimes disbands from the party. No warning. No replacement. He just hit 24 and jumped ship. Didn't even bother allowing his PL to give me the Raise. Left us one man down and without a healer.
I eventually HP and return. Party leader can't find a replacement healer, so we disband. I get aggro on my way out and die a second time, the moment I zone. Almost 1k experience lost within a half an hour.
That kind of set back is nothing I'm not already used to in playing FFXI. Keep in mind, I'm not saying Knighttimes is lousy in terms of skill (although he rarely healed, and when he wasn't he decided to join in on melee). Rather, I just wanted to give you all a fair warning that this is a good example of what a selfish, lousy player is. This guy only plays to level himself, and he leaves the party when his goal is met, no concern for the other players.
Also know that Massaranger is linked to him in some way (if it isn't him on a second character).
