I feel like the first newb in years.Follow

I joined FFXI about a week ago, I pretty much get the gist of how to play, and I do have my own set of goals which is currently

-make lvl 18
-start and finish the subjob quest (items already required)
-join a team that doesn't have a meticulously cliche name
-get lvl 30
-do the quests that lead up to becoming a BLU (Blue Mage)
-work on from there.

Currently I'm a Hume lvl 16 RDM (Red Mage) in the Bastok area waitng randomly to be recruited by a random party, hoping to play with till i at least make lvl 18.

It's been really difficult to be new and get a party.

I use Xbox Live (gamertag: Demon Cat Lord) to play, and I'm 19 years old, in case you guys are flimsy in terms of playing with children.

If anyone wants to help me, I'll be around.

Nice set of goals you have there. It's a good start.

Because the game is quite "old", there's a lot of veterans already and not a lot of them give new players their time of day.

Most of them by-pass lower levels by having their friends power-level (high-level white mage or red mage curing them) them through or they set up low-level parties within their own linkshell.

Of all the people left looking for groups at your level, most of them are probably new and clueless like yourself. So the best way to progress through the lowbie levels is to be pro-active about partying and try making your own.

These days, there's a lot of variations, but the "classic" six-player parties at low levels would consist of 2-3 back line/support jobs that concentrate on healing with at least one WHM or RDM being the main healer, and the rest being front line/damage dealer jobs with at least one tank (usually WAR/MNK makes a good low-level tank).

However, try not to limit yourself to finding six-player groups. At low levels, even groups of two or three go a long way - especially with Fields of Valor now available in most beginner areas.

Field Manuals also grant support spells such as re-raise, regen, refresh, so even if you end up soloing your way to 30, you can be relatively self-sufficient.

I have made a few friends already.

One of which has offered to be my~~~ how to say~~

teach sensai person guy.

he's been helping me level up buy Power-Leveling i think he called it.

we're working on training my white mage to i can use it as a sub job until i eventually get the combo
BLU/RDM thing going.

I'm looking forward to lvl 30 in BLU, that's when we're going to start really questing together. me him and his linkshell.

Needless to say tis game has become so much more enjoyable with peers.

i'm looking forward to becomeing -useful- and doing my best to not being the guy chosen merely becuase i was -available-

i'm still looking forward to having a separate party from the linkshell with my own lil clique.
maybe end up forming on with in the linkshell.
hoping for 2 or 3 mithras, cuz they are just beautiful.
and like most men you enjoy the company of woman.

*hides from any slapping woman in the vincinity*

more or less i want a team of not jerks, which is my ultamate goal.

the only goal i can think of to surpass that one would be to actually have a clan of my own.

er, yeah. i'd be careful with mithras because a lot of them are actually manthras (guys playing mithra character models).

all the best with your adventuring~

Just a game, might as well have fun with it.

Well if anyone's actually interested in my lil newb adventure log

Yesterday I made lvl 17 in Red mage and started training in white mage to use it as my sub job for now.

Going into not stop training with me sensai man guy going to get white mage to lvl 25, i beleive he said and then resuming game play as a RDM/WHT, until my dreams of BLU become virtual reality.

I'm not sure how much you know about Blue Mage. I'll tell you a few things. First off, the job is fun as hell. It's one of the most entertaining jobs due to the large mix of Blue Magic you have. The second thing to keep in mind is that obtaining Blue Magic is a long and tedious process. You could spend hours trying to get 1 spell or get lucky and get it right away. I remember my first spell (Pollen.) I killed nothing but bees from level 1 to 4 before I finally learned it. You'll also want to have Ninja leveled for a leveling Sub job for Blue Mage and Ninja can be expensive to level due to all the ninja tools used for Utsusemi... which can be expensive if you don't quest for it.

If you need a guide to Norg (if you decide to have a Nin sub), i'll take you there. For anybody who's never been there before, you'll get lost and go crazy.
