Returning Player, New ToonFollow

#1 Jul 25 2010 at 12:32 PM Rating: Default
Hello,

I played on Lakshmi for five years and quit FFXI a few years ago. I am currently downloading updates and will play once again on Lakshmi. Is there a good population on Lakshmi? Can anyone help out a returning player by loaning some low lvl gear?

Thanks and I look forward to meeting everyone (and seeing some old faces).

Josh

Give me a /tell if I'm around. I'm not planning anything big today, might be available to help you out a bit. In-game name is same as forum.

Population is fine here.

You're an ex-WoW player, aren't you? Most FFXI players don't call their character a "toon"; in fact, they shudder at the very thought of the term.

I played FFXI for five years. I left for WoW because of the RMT on FFXI controlling all HNMs and God spawns. I'm sorry that some of you get upset because someone quit the game that you idolize. I obviously enjoyed it enough to come back and play it again so I'm not sure whats up with all the negative comments. And yes, I refer to them as toons. Get over it.

No one is upset that you left the game. It's quite normal, we all know that it can be frustrating some times. The word toon just sounds stupid that's all....

Oh and most of the RMT have been gone for years, they work in the background and you rarely see them.

Ignore the negative comments. :P

But really, we don't like our characters to be referred to as toon.

My personal feelings on it is that the character on screen is a representation of myself. Do I call myself a toon? No, it sounds rather self deprecating. I don't call it avatar either, especially since that would create a mess of a confusion. I like character. It seems dignified, rather like the world and the community of FFXI. :)

People get upset at the word 'toons' because it's a WoW term. Characters on WoW look just like that: cartoons. One major graphical difference between FFXI and WoW is the realistic character design.

Calling your character a toon just advertises the fact that you are/were a WoW player, and people will assume you have the same self-inflated, holier-than-thou, 14-year-old attitude that has come to be expected of most WoW players.

Hey. I have you know that I met someone on WoW claiming to be 12. He pretty much broke the WoW stereotypes. Most polite, well mannered player I have ever met on that game.

And his typing was nearly flawless, too.

It's not a wow term, it's a MMO term. Toon, DPS, Mob, and several other terms that are universal to MMO's and have been around since early days of ultima online and everquest. Last time I bothered to pay attention most FFXI players were too stupid to even know what most the MMO terms meant or what they are and just made stuff up even if it's retarded, like FFXI's favorite term DD. Just ask people what MOB means and you'll likely get some retarded reply that doesn't make any sense like monster. :P

I prefer character too but meh toon is the universal accepted MMO term, no real need to act like *** holes.
