I agree, Willow. I also notice the increasing number of people wearing things like Noble's Tunic, Vermillion Cloak, HQ elemental staves, etc, purchased from Auction House. These have always been big money items, mostly because it took a lot of hard work to acquire the materials and craft. But even as the prices soar HIGHER there are more and more people able to afford these things straight off the AH (the concern being more so -outside- of the growing number of HNM shells who can acquire the items to have things like these crafted for their members and the growing number of high level crafters able to turn out/purchase these items), when a while back when I started it was rare to see (I remember distinctly a gap of several months in the Noble's Tunic history, as it was my favorite item to window shop for at the time before I had an end-game LS).

The players are getting richer and richer, either through experience or through buying gil online. And I would HATE to start this game right now as both a player trying to afford armor and as a player interested in the craft system. It almost seems pointless unless you can afford regular trips to the gil store. I wish SE would find a way to streamline the gil flow or make it so newer players can progress in the game without having to buy gil.

not to be too negative or anything, but imo, if u wanna have really uber armor, or w/e, u gotta:
Buy gil, be previously rich due to crafts, of have a very very nice rich friend lol.
Like me for instance, back in november 04 i quested Utsusemi:ichi, and sold it cause at the time i didnt wanna use NIN, sold it for 200k (which for me then was a lot), a few weeks ago i go check it out, 2.5mil...and unfortunately for me i have no high crafts, so unless i buy gil or have a very nice friend buy/quest it for me...im **** outta luck on that.
if u dont like AH prices, but u must have good gear to press on, quit ff11. if u buy gil, well i cant say ur a bad person anymore because too many ppl buy gil, so thats 1 of the few ways u can keep up with prices.
Me personally, im not buyin gil or quitting, and for that matter, buying gear from AH, because i dont give a god damn what someone online nerd has to say bout my 'gimp gear' because i refuse to spend REAL money for FAKE items. u fail at life if u spend hundreds of dollars for a video game.

P.S. my god help your soul if ur a new player and u plan to level a mage job...i pray for u lol

...you make buying gil sound okay.
Umm... no.

Yes inflation has gone up, and it has gone up bad. I don't see why new players will have problems starting this game. Please remember that while inflation has gone up for items such as vermy, sh, hauby, etc, lower items such as fire crystals, silk, beastman blood, etc has gone up in value as well. Although people that start this game will not craft right away, there are many ways to gather gil, ie mining, logging, etc. New player or not, there are ways to gather gil, its whether you wanna break a sweat and try, or take the "gimp" way and buy gil.

Just to prove how easy it is to make gil, one of the people in my LS Mentioned they needed Jujitsu - Gi (body armor) for their MNK. I offered to help them as I really wasn't busy, and seeing as how the armor went for 2 mil at AH I assumed it was going to be camped heavily. Luckily, when I got there there wasn't a SINGLE PERSON around. I killed the spawn mobs and waited for about 15 minutes, and he pops. I get the claim, (still noone around) I die, (lost about 1200 exp). By this time I figured someone else had the claim, but I wanted to make sure. I RUN back to Davoi (from jeuno) and the mob is still there unclaimed. I make the kill and get the Jujitsu - Gi item first kill.

Now this is a perfect example of an easy way to make gil, as this is only a lvl 40 mob, so you could probably get a party of people to kill it.

I actually ended up selling this to an LS member for pretty cheap, so I didn't get the 2 mil, just wanted to state how easy it is to get gil if people would just set their mind to it.

(I would have given it to them free if they would have helped me camp it, but since they didn't I charged them for the lost EXP :D)

i didnt mean to make it sound like gilbuying is ok. no at this point it doesnt affect the game much because its already been ****** up...if someone buys gil they suck as a person which is bad for life, not game lol. its just a lot of times ppl ***** and rant that AH is too high or w/e. ive been on this game a long time now, and ppl used to ***** when items were even 1/5 the price it is now. and there IS no easy way to make money i promise u. expensive ores in mining arent very easy to mine. hell there might be someone whos gotten 5x darksteels in a row, and in my lifetime ive only mined 6 (most of which were back when it was 5k).

But for future reference, anytime theres a time of year where ppl get lots of money (i.e. the next few months, xmas), expect prices to rise. If u are 1/1000 ppl on the server that are willing to try and make gil the old fashioned way in a ****** up new age economy, all i gotta say is good luck lol. but for ppl who have jobs and schools, its pretty gay to spend ALL ur playtime making meager amounts of gil.
