Ok, this is just a question. Why do you guys do this?
Have like a All PLD LS or a All WHM ls or a All RDM ls?
I can understand for AF and stuff like that but other than that, what is the purpose?
I just want to know just to get some insight from all these people.

*This isnt a ***** or complant.*
I am staying that right now!
This isnt a FLAME THREAD!

I just think it will help everyone understand why to go to those types of Linkshells. Now for the other side of the coin. I honestly perfer mine that has a lvl cap. Other than that, anyone can join. I (my personal opinion) just think that might be more efficent when doing things like AF's and Genkai's.

Well, thats my two gil. ^^

I don't have a all-one-job LS.. but I have an all Mithran LS. And we're not even all mithran >< we have 2 humes, but were all girls in real life, and we don't let any guys in..(in exception of close friends/family)

Why though? Not sure, at the time it just seemed like fun, and it still does. Its nice to have a group of people who see things the same as you. To do the same things, give tips, and borrow equip even.

Its just all in good fun I guess. ^^

I just remembered something else it might be good for...
Those quests in San D' Introduction to teamwork and stuff, those quests would be perfect for linkshells like that...but thats pretty much it...I think.

Hiya... I just started an all WHM LS yesterday and already have 20+ members.

Pretty much this LS is not my main one... not by far. The reason I created it is for people that love the WHM to have a place to get t'gether and help each other out with it. It's more of a meeting place for people with a similar purpose.

I normally have my main on... but if I'm teleporting, or just doing whatever I drop into the all whm one.

If anyone is interested in joining... lemme know. ^^

The main reason is its a place where people gather to share knowledge and stratagy for their given job. In theory, I belong (kinda) to a RNG LS, its purpose is techncally to give us RNG a place to gather and chat once in awhile. Helping newer RNG's sharing our knowlegde and trying to make us all better.

An all job LS is basically for people who place to dedicate their FFXI career to that job, so If you switch a job, its not like you dont belong, unless you switch jobs as your main. Then you would be kind of out of place

In theory....

I dont think it works out to well in practice, I have only ever used my RNG pearl a handfull of times, and once was just luck running into people who equpped it, I did answer some of their questions. The other time was a 'scheduled' meeting, and that was kind of lame, as no one really said much >>.>> I had stuff going on with my LS at that time so I didnt stay long.

Basically its more for people who dont frequent message boards, we have questions, if we come here and browse or post, pick up all sorts of useful handy tips and info. Those who dont are kind of left in the dark. I know what the relation of AGI and Ranged Accuracy are, teh order of importance of R aacc R attck and AGI EVA etc etc. and am fammiliar with alot of the complex theories and 'sneaky sneaky' tricks of being a RNG. I picked ALL of it up from forums.

Most of the time its better to just take a new player interested in our job under your wing, and guide them and teach them what you know, it works out much better. Most of the time these guys seek us more expeiranced players out anyway and 'pester' us with apologetic questions. I am sure we have all had that.

Hope this answers your question mate ^^

This trend all sorta started with all BST LS (which I'm part of one)..

mainly cause BST is a tough job.. it's rough going in the beginning and it's nice to be able to converse and get tips from people who've been there and know how and what you're going through.

I mean.. think about it:

you're BLM, 13th level.. you go to the dunes.. or a few other alternatives

you're a WHM/BLM now, 13th level.. you can ask ANY other job where to go to level and likely get the same response....back to the dunes... or one of the alternatives you tried as a BLM your first time out

you're a BST/WHM now, 13th level.. if you step foot into the dunes you'll get totally owned.. without someone to let you know that the best places to level at that point for BST are la thiene or tahrongi, it's likely you would follow the same pattern you knew as a BLM and WHM and get crushed... label the job "too hard" and give it up, when in reality you're in the wrong place at the wrong time.

this is what BST only LS bring to other BST, knowledge.. ideas.. concepts.. simply conversation with people of the same mindset and goals and potential duo partners if there's someone of your same level in the LS. (since it's not like you'll be partying as a BST)

as for other <group> only LS.. aside from knowledge and a sympathetic ear.. I'm not 100% certain what else you could get from it.. but that alone is good enough for most.

Ok now here's the question that has been bugging me:

Let's just say that the job specific LSes are designed for people with similar main jobs to help each other out and form strategies and what not right? Why not save the time/effort and just visit the job forums and get the same, if not more, information? Rather than limiting yourself to strategies, help, etc from a small group of people, you can expand your source of information from people across multiple servers. Wouldn't this be better?

good question..

I use the forums as well as my friends for information.. and some things I just try for myself:

for example.. scythe. Now I know.. scythe sux for low level BST.. selling it back tonight.

and there are some questions I just forgot the answer to, and since I hate having to hop out of game just for one question it's nice to have HIGH level BST to ask.

honestly for other jobs though, I see your point though.. typically the tactics for a good party setup and places to camp per level are the same no matter what your LS, only major exception to this being BST which is a totally different ballgame.

You don't even have to temp log out of the game.
Here's what I did when I had questions regarding NIN:

me: /sea all nin 40-75
*looks at results and finds someone that doesn't look like he is in a PT*
me: /tell <insert person here> hi, i am levelling nin right now, and i have a question. do you have a minute?
high level nin: /tell Tzipporah sure. what do you need to know?

I stopped levelling NIN by the way and right now I am working on BST. But I find that this works just as well with BST. Hell you can even make a few friends while you're at it.
I dunno. IMO I think there are too many linkshells out there. There was a guy in my LS who started his own because none of the sackholders were able to get his friend a pearl in time. One guy started his own LS for John Kerry supporters. One guy started a craft specific LS. Come on people, do we need that many LSes?
