eliminating tele-***** spammers...Follow

#1 Oct 05 2004 at 11:24 AM Rating: Decent
so, i read all these threads about how we hate the bokeli and hissy or whoever, people that sit in jeuno and spam their teleports... granted i use them as i'm sure everyone has...

Note:
i was really lazy to go back and look and see if anyone had any good ideas of payback... but so far as i can tell no one has...

for all of those people who REALLY hate these tele-spammers heres your plan... everyone start /tell'ing them... and i mean everyone!

can you imagine sitting spamming away and just taking /t after /t after /t...

this wouldn't work on an individual level if only one or two people were to do it... but if everyone who read this thread passed it on to two other people, and they passed it on to two other people and so on down the road...

again i don't know if its been recommended before or if its even a good idea.. i'll know by tomorrow though! =)

but instead of complaining about the spamming, i though i might try and come up with a solution...

Well, if you'd read on the "Jeuno, world of wtf"
you'd see that to combat those stupid /sh spammers, I offer teleports for free.
It's my way of fighting the insanity.

I teleport in bastok, even though being in jeuno would probably mean more gil. I just dont want to be grouped with those other rediculous spammers. I also send a /tell to anyone who spams repeatedly, telling them to shut up. I also will do some free teleports to combat this.

Tele-***** spammers aren't even that bad right now in comparison to the CASINOS. My blacklist has well over 40 people on it right now thanks to casinos...it's disgusting. Yes, blah blah blah people can do whatever with their money blah blah blah just blacklist them. In Quicksand Caves awhile ago, WHILE EXPING, SOMEBODY STARTED A CASINO. ***** wasting your time and energy on the telespammers; the casino people need the constant /tells more.

I like tele-spammers. When I exit my mog house and want a teleport, I see the shout and know who is offering. If I don't want to see the shouts, I turn on my chat filter. I'm not going to let innocent words on a computer screen cause me any grief.

You beat me to the punch! Tele-spammers may be annoying, but at least they provide a valuable, useful service to the community.

Casinos are a cancer, a plague of this game, perpetuated by those who are lazy and/or have no sense about how to make money in decent ways - that includes both those who operate and those who participate. They could farm, fish, craft, garden, mine..but no, they have to play stupid games that get them blacklisted by most people. I can't wait until these people come begging for parties...although personally I won't hear 'em.

The casino people wouldn't have a business if people stopped using them. If you are gonna BL them, you might think about BL the people who you see using their services all the time.

bleh.. I'm rarely in Jeuno and when I am I'm too busy doing things to worry about teleporters or casino's...

teleporters are offering a service.. if the market didn't exist.. they wouldn't be doing it. /blist people all you want, but not everyone wants to play WHM just to get to 36th level to teleport themselves.

add to that.. MOST WHM's in general DON'T like getting bothered with /tells every 15 minutes asking for a teleport when we're in town, so people offering services means less /tell spam for me to weed through and tell people I'm busy, to which they often try to convince me SEVERAL times that I should 'port them.... I don't get this in Jeuno.. but any of the other three countries where no one really offers a 'port service easily results in several /tells. No going /anon doesn't help.. /anon instantly dings "this person is a WHM" In the minds of anyone searching. I had a friend actually argue with someone and turned /anon OFF just to prove to them he wasn't a WHM!!!!

as far as casinos go... it's a stupid tax.
"a fool and his money are soon parted...", people dumb enough to gamble on something THAT high risk deserve to loose.. sure it generates a lot of chat quickly.. but you can always filter it or blacklist them and be done with it. I just ignore them like any conversation that doesn't involve me... and since I'm typically doing something, I'm rarely in any given area long enough for it to be noticable, let alone a problem.

Personally, I appreciate your input and trying to find a creative solution (even if it is probably against the FFXI ToS). It sucks that you got rated down for voicing a valid opinion and a solution.

But...you need to calm the hell down.

People get rated down all the time, for no apparent reason. Get over it. You're only asking to be rated down more, not to mention make yourself look bad in-game.

Am I allowed to express my hatred to Bokeli, Hisisy, and all gil farmers on THIS thread?? I was given a hard time putting them down on a thread that was started for them in a positive light.

I've spoke to Hisisy multiple times. It's funny when people say it's one person and he's not a gil farmer...a few times I've spoke to him, he spoke the worst broken English I've ever seen. The next day, he spoke better English than I did. A few friends have also had the same experiences with this member of the evil telespam regime!

I thought there was already a few other threads for this purpose? No need to beat a dead horse.

As for the original poster, sending /tells to them over and over will just cause them to do this:

/blist add <insert your name here>

There's no way you'll possibly get enough people to do this for a long enough time for them to be bothered by it. Good idea, but not feasable.

While that's valid, but I am not the one starting these new threads. Yes I started the original "Two little telespammers...", but as long as people are starting new threads concerning teleport spam, gilfarmers, and bokeli and hisisy, I feel I have the right to express my dislike towards them without being "off subject". I mean I log in today and see about five brand new threads with almost identical titles "tele...". I didn't start these threads. But I throw in my opinion on the subject at hand and "I am beating a dead horse"? What would a reasonable response be?

Let's see...
New hypothetical thread:

Poster A:
"I am sick of Bokeli and Hisisy and there telespamming. Let's do something about it!"

Vawn:
"I am sick of them too. Gilfarmers are bad for the game"

Poster B:
"Vawn what the hell is your problem? Sheesh, is all you do pick on those little guys."

Poster A:
"Seriously, Vawn try to stay on subject."

Okay, your example gave me a good laugh. It doesn't bother me that you voice your opinion in what appear to be appropriate places. It just seems like this topic of "gil farmers being bad" and "XX person is a gil farmer" is getting a little old. To me at least. I can just as easily not read those threads anymore if they bother me.

I agree that people who constantly spam and spam and spam tele's should be shot, but Tele's ARE a Good service to the community, not to mention, anyone who works their *** off to get whm to 36 to GIVE this service deserves to do what they want with it. If you want to charge 500 gil (which i do, it's my way of making Gil to fund my summoner and my ranger) do so, if you want to give free tele's, who's to stop you? You can't ***** at White Mage's for charging for tele's, that's like yelling at a crafter for selling too many of their product and putting a huge surplus in the market.

I no longer telespam in any of the cities, but if I am in a city and unanon I generally charge for tele requests unless the person is really nice about it. If they're incredibly polite then I usually give them one for free; the same goes for people I've partied with and enjoyed the company of or linkshell mates. Funny thing is I've made more money off of teles by remaining unanon in towns than I ever did via shouting, and making friends with nice, polite people is always a wonderful experience :)
