Question as a pullerFollow

Hi all. Got an opinion question for you. Frankly I am not sure what the right answer is.

Was in a PT tonight in Cape Terrigan. Never been there before. As RNG I get assigned puller, which I am used to. However we are camped in a cave which is blocked by pugs which I am told will aggro. Since I don't have any clue what to pull or what else aggroes, I ask and am instructed to pull crabs. So far so good.

About 1K EXP in I find I have to go out onto the beach further cause there is nothing to pull near the entrance to the cave. I pull a crab and head back and wouldnt you know it, 2 crabs and a pug have popped behind me while I pulled and are blocking the cave so I can't get in without them aggroing me ><. I warn everyone to zone, and I run for the zone (the cave we were in is the area to zone to the Valley of Sorrows). Everyone kinda stands there while I get eaten for lunch and die. No help, no voke, no cure, and no comment. Nobody even zoned, which seemed odd as we were right there. Luckily only I die.

About 1500 EXP later I am pulling and a pug pops right on top of me. I try to get away with no aggro but no luck and again head to the zone, warning folks I have been aggroed. This time the BLM tries to throw a heal on me and ends up taking aggro and dies ;;. Nobody else does a thing. This time I make it, and immediately the RDM starts in on the BLM "Thats why you don't help the puller if they get aggroed. If they have a bad pull, tank vokes or they die". (btw--the tank voked neither time). Then the RDM said something about "that's the job they signed up for, they have to deal with it. BAD PULL". Now I have been in a lot of PTs, and normally a PT will at least try to have your back if something goes wrong, so I say "I don't remember signing up to die pulling with no help if anything bad happens".
RDM: Tough thats your job
Me: I think it's pretty easy for you to say dying and losing my EXP while you stand by and watch is "my job"
RDM: So we are supposed to die because of YOUR bad pull?

Keep in mind I am not sure how I could have avoided the problem either time, so I don't think these were "Bad pulls" It's not like I pulled a link or the wrong mob. So given that this is apparently an extremely difficult camp to pull from, and I don't have any back-up, and it appears that continuing in the PT is likely to make me go backwards faster than forwards. I thank them for the PT and ask them to find a replacement.

Now please help me out here--I thought a PT was supposed to help each other. If I see a PT member take aggro, I aggro and pull it off them. Is losing EXP in situations like this simply my tough luck because I happen to like playing RNG? If thats the way it is I will learn to deal with it, but something seems awfully wrong about essentially leaving one PT member out to dry with no help. At the same time tho, I don't want to have others get killed. It just seems to work better when the PT helps each other live to a safe area. Please help me out--I need other opinions. Thanks!

I can see your point. Usually if there is a bad pull, we zone, and if I am a Warrior, I provoke to keep someone from dying. If I am a Black Mage, I will try to Bind or something to do the same. I don't stand idly by while someone else gets devoured.
This is one of the problems with some areas that have bad places to camp (like Yuhtunga Jungle). If I know for a fact that it's a bad place to camp, then I try to convince the PT to move somewhere else.
In any case, after that second time, I would have disbanded and looked for another PT. Either that or I would have asked the leader to remove the Red Mage and find someone a little more willing to work as a team.
By the way, who was the Red Mage??

That sounds terrible. I can't believe that a party would just let you die like that.

Speaking as a RDM, I'd have to say that one of our jobs is controlling unexpected adds. Did they even try to sleep the additional mobs? That's something I've come to expect from either the RDM (me ^^), the BRD or the BLM of the group. Unexpected adds are a fact of leveling, and I would think parties at your level would be able to deal with them.

Well, I hope you have better luck in the future. ^^

As a RDM, if we get aggro or a link I either sleep the additional mob or heal whoever needs healing. With both a BLM and RDM there's no reason why you couldnt sleep an additional mob or two (although if you've got more than 3 mobs you're probably not going to be able to keep them all asleep). You're in a party to work together, and you're not getting anywere by letting someone die, since you just have to wait for them to get raised and unweakened. Now, I understand that they may be upset that you got aggro, since it is annoying and vastly increases the chances of someone dying. However, as a RDM, I never pull, so if I had to do it, I would be getting aggro and links right and left, which is why I rarely get angry when we get adds. Someone should have done something to help you. Either the tank vokes or any of the three mages can cure you. In my opinion, there is no excuse for just letting a party member die. If they were busy fighting one mob and they just didn't have any extra time to keep you alive, that's understandable. But if they just stood there as you died, that's ridiculous, and you have every right to seek a new party. As a puller, you're going to die from aggro sometimes, so you're going to have to get used to it, but you shouldn't have to die needlessly, especially if someone can toss you a cure and then zone quickly.

Thanks for the responses. I don't want to make this a personal issue, so I will leave the person anonymous. To answer the question above there was no attept to bind, sleep, voke, or anything outside of the one person who saved me the second time by throwing a crucial cure on me that allowed me to zoned. (BTW--I can't tell you how much I appreciated that, and told them so. However, nobody else in the PT did a thing to pull the mob off the BLM either apparently /sigh).

That messed up. I would die for my team. Dang it, take it for the team! Although I can't voke due to my maging jobs, when things go wrong I usually am the last one standing and the last one sticking around to make sure everyone gets their proper Cures, and hopefully the mob's hate.

But on a different stance, is it better to have one character dead than 6? I'd take 6, it makes the game more entertaining.
