That WHM famring thread is nice and all before about level 40, after that the Gil you need for everything at level 40+ is much more than just training a few orcs and selling some beehive chips. That guy claims he makes about 10k gil an hour, and lets say a normal person working a regular full-time job has about 2 full hours per day to farm, so 20k a night if they are lucky and have a good night. Now, here's what I need as a level 50 BLM to sustain myself for about the next 5 levels, not counting spells...
Dark Staff - 230k
Ice Staff - 170k
Morion Earring - 100k
Morion Tathlum - 35k
Wisdom Rings x2 - 180k (I think...not 100% sure on this one)
So...about 715k gil. Add spells and we're closer to 800k gil. I'm sure WHM (Erase, Raise 2, Dark Staff, Light Staff, Astral/Electrum Rings, etc. etc.) and RDM (Phalanx, Refresh, Dark Staff, Light Staff, Ice Staff, Rings for spells and melee, a good sword, etc.) are probably somewhere in this neighborhood as well. Doing simple math, that's 80 DAYS of farming 2 hours a day. Ouch.
Sure, there's a few one-time-only ways to make money, like doing the teleport quests, but most Mages are going to use those spells, not sell them. Utsusemi is a nice gil pickup, but only if you don't plan on ever leveling Ninja.
I dunno, I'm at a loss. That WHM farming guide certaintly isn't the way, though...
