This is a warning to anyone who happened to be here in Lower Jeuno tonight:
There's someone down here shouting that theyre selling a Kirin's Osode for either 6 million gil, or any item WORTH at least 6 million gil. Naturally, this sounded like a good deal (despite the fact that it seemed too good to be true), so I looked into it, and offered him my Strider Boots. Here's how the conversation played out, verbatim (I cant take Screenshots because Im on PS2):\
(oh, and the player's name is Fade):
Me: Are you willing to take Strider Boots for the Osode?
Fade: yes, but there's a catch.
Me: What is it?
Fade: You have to be here to trade at 6 est tomorrow.
[by this time, it was seeming even more suspicious, but I figured maybe he meant we would be BOTH trading our items at that time, so I went along with it]
Me: Ok, I'll be there tomorrow then.
[a short time passes]
Fade: Ok, well come trade me your strider boots now as proof of payment
Me: o_0
Me: <_<
Me: Wait... lemme get this straight...
Me: You want me to trade you my strider boots now...
Me: So that you can trade me an Osode that you MAY get tomorrow?
Fade: Yes
Me: Well, lets step back and think about this...
Me: Put yourself in my position...
Me: Now how stupid does that sound
Fade: Yes, I understand, but its really no skin off my back
Me: Can you TRY not to make it seem like a scam, at least?
Me: I mean, even if youre being honest about this...
Me: Why cant you just take my boots tomorrow when you get the Osode?
Fade: I just cant.
Me: Well sorry then. Sounds too fishy to me. I'm not that stupid.
Me: Enjoy your Osode.
Fade: OK then
Me: Good luck ripping someone else off.
I'm not going to go into whether or not Fade is a good person, and whether or not he had any intention of ripping me off. For all I know, he could very well have intended to trade me an Osode tomorrow, just as he said he would. But just the same... thats pretty stupid business if you ask me--giving up a multimillion gil item TODAY so that you can get another one tomorrow?
Ive heard too many horror stories about people losing valuable items from scammers before, and I wasnt about to put myself in any position to be scammed.
Therefore, if anyone has been scammed, or heard of anyone being scammed by this person, I'd like testimonials here so we can get his name out before we have another Coniver/Miscellaneous on our hands. And if this just happens to be a good person with poor business sense, well... I say let him go about his business then.
Anyways, heads up Gilgamesh. I'd hope anyone here with a pinch of common sense won't bite... just in case =/
