I whole heartedly agree that flat panels pre2005 looked like ass incarnate. Ok, not what your sitting on but pretty damn bad when playing a game. Ass con carne? What, it rhymes. So with that mental image stuck in your head, i'll say that some of the new LCD's can keep up with games just nicely. My roomate has an 8MS response time monitor that can jack up past 1280 to resolutions I've forgotten, and the difference while playing games on it is palpable, as if a game has flavor its no longer masked by screen lag.

Myself? I can train my brain to ignore the pain for a monitor that doesn't wiegh 1/2 my weight like my old 21" CRT. I miss her then I remember last time I moved and she nearly killed me when I picked her up and fell backwards. I love you chronic back pain, will you be my friend?

The monitor argument is well and good, but what about the computer. The monitor doesn't actually do any work, and can always be upgraded as technology improves. This isn't the case for the guts of the machine.

I just bought a dual core something-or-other (technical term...). What I learned from my experience with BestBuy (the devil), is that the hp model sucked ass and didn't work three times before they gave me a gateway that works real well. I'm a big fan of warranties now that I used to think were a bad idea... Ummm... I'm off track... Oh, yeah, upgradable issues...

I don't think you can upgrade a 32 bit processor to a 64 bit processor. I thought all the single processor boards were 32 bit. I think windows vista is designed for 64. Still, there is the issue of how much the systems will improve in the next year. I bought a dual core because I want the option of having the sh*ttiest computer that could utilize the buggiest new software package ever. Something massachistic about my attitude toward technology. Plus, I already have a very nice flatscreen, and the computer was only like $650.
