Pending a Comeback...Questions about Today's GarudaFollow

Hello Garuda,

Some of you may remember me as Gavilrain or as Oxide. After being away from FFXI for so long to play World of Warcraft I've been looking at making a possible comeback. When I left there was the general TP Burn or GTFO mentality roaming the server and if you weren't a WAR/NIN chances are you weren't going anywhere anytime soon as a DD. I would rather not have to go back into waiting 4+ hours for a group as a Paladin or a Thief in the mid 70s again. If its gear dependant money is of no object. I retired the game with 37 million gil sitting on my toons.

My question is how much has the party setups and leveling aspects changed over the last 18 months? Also how has the economy stabilized with the removal of the RMT? Finally, has someone set fire to Kolvar yet for quitting the game?

Thanks in advance,

Gavilrain of Windurst

P.S. Modacai, Arzak, Sparkless, and Fayth send their love from WoW's Aggramar-US Server. =)

Ok well let's see. First of all, you're pretty **** rich now as the price of items have dropped a lot with the removal of many RMT. Secondly, leveling has changed a lot with the new level sync system. You can synchronize your entire party to any specific party member's level. As a 70 PLD, you can and will be getting invites from people of all different levels. I switch to PLD on occasion and get bombarded with tells asking me to party anywhere from level 20 to level 70.

SAMs and DRGs get merit parties over WARs, but WARs still get them a lot too. Polearm users are the invite of choice against birds. Also, "toons" is a WoW term. We don't use it here :)

Unfortunately, the mentality of the game is STILL TP burn. THFs don't get many pts @ 70 (my uncle is a 75 thf and campaigned from 69-75), everyone and their grandpa wants to be a sam (which I started leveling out of boredom), PLDs get a few more invites than before but everyone is into the DD PLD craze....

Other than that, business as usual in Garuda.

EDIT: Nothing against DD PLDs meant, I just disagree with the concept. Nothing personal.

EDIT: 3/24--To decide for myself which PLD is actually better, I started leveling it...up to 12 right now.

Also, using the word "toon" will get you lynched on Garuda.

Why disagree with the concept? Smiley: dubious It's like disagreeing with putting a bigger engine on a bigger plane. It just works better Smiley: lol.

PLDs are still low on the food chain for merits where there is no real tank. Even if they /NIN and have a DD setup.

HOWEVER, due to the 2 handed weapon changes and the /SAM benefits, NINs can hardly hold hate anymore. So for level sync parties PLDs and THFs are quite employable, desired, and sought after. Want a party as PLD? Just take /anon off, the invites will follow.

Downside. Even PLDs have a hard time holding hate today.

And the dual wielding WAR/NIN is quite outdated.

FFXIAH.com will answer all your economic questions.

Only the good ones (of which there are very few)Smiley: lol

Also with the expansion of FoV we could see more viable xp alternatives all the way up to 75. It's not OMGWTF merit speed but I find low man xp a refreshing change of pace.
