A few years ago, my CoP static was to do a mission late on a Saturday night... the gather together time was around 11:30 p.m. pst. One of our static members hadn't logged in, and we had no clue where he was. We knew his name, so I jumped on the Internet and used some databases to try to track down his phone number. We knew he was an older guy and that he lived on his own, so we weren't worried about waking anyone else up.
After several minutes of digging, I found a phone number in his name that matched the city (in Alabama) where he lived. I picked up my phone and dialed... and to my dismay, a groggy older woman picked up.
"Uh, hi, is Nate there?" I asked.
"Who is this?" she asked.
"Uh, my name is Scott, I'm a friend of his."
"How do you know him?"
"Well, we play this online game together, and he's supposed to be online right now for a mission."
Anyway, turns out the groggy older woman was my static member's MOM!!! And keep in mind Alabama is three hours ahead of the west coast... so while it was around midnight here, it was 3 a.m. there! Fortunately she found this whole situation very funny.
My static mate never logged in that night, but the next time we chatted he said his family wasn't letting him hear the end of his weird online gaming friend. :D
