Ok heres a quick question maybe some high level 70+'s can help me with.
What is the highest chain u can get?
I've gotten 5, i seem to recall hitting 6 but can't for the life of me remember if i did or not.
So is there a possible way to get Chain #s 6,7,8+?
And if so, what lvl and situation (pt setup, mob etc.) would you need to accomplish this. Someone told me there was a 500 xp bonus for chain #7 which is why i ask.

Well im not 100% sure about this but im pretty sure you can gain chains up to the point where the time inbetween them is so low its impossible to.
Heres what i know about exp chains. In order to get a Chain you have to kill a EM+ (T VT IT) in certain time to get a chain. The higher the chain... the less time you have to kill the monster.
Chain 1 = 10% increase of exp
Chain 2 = 20%
Chain 3 = 30%
Chain 4 = 40%
Chain 5-? = 50%
Like i said im not 100% sure of that info but am pretty sure thats right.

Ok, maybe I am completely insane and remembering this wrong...but I swear I saw some screen shots once around these forums of a JP party hitting chain #12. Anyone else see this?
While I don't qualify as a high level answer, this is the info I have:
The maximum XP chain bonus you can receive (pre-update) is 200. You achieve the 200 xp bonus starting at XP Chain #8 for lower levels, but more commonly occurs at XP Chain #10. How one achieves an XP Chain that high I have no idea since beyond #5 you are dealing with a 60 second timer for each mob. So pre-update you could have maxed out at 400 XP for a single fight.
Post-update, since they adjusted the amount of XP that can be gained at higher levels, it is conceivable that you could get a total of 500 XP for a single fight, pending you are able to XP Chain that high.

You can get as much EXP Chain as you want, but chains after chain 5 still give you a multiplier of 1.5 and I believe that after Chain 5, the timer is still the same. As you level up, the exp chain window increases, and now with the patch, so does the base EXP.
EXP Chain 1: 1.2xbase
EXP Chain 2: 1.25xbase
EXP Chain 3: 1.3xbase
EXP Chain 4: 1.4xbase

Yes, it's the same amount of time after #5. To get to #10 or the like you need an alliance.
Some jp parties use an alliance of 8 with 2 nin in the second PT so they can always have a puller out.

One of the more respectable posters/players on FFXIOnline has a picture of him with a chain 11, it was a speed exp party. These pt's don't kill IT's, the kill as much as fast as they can.
I hit chain #7 off of VTs-ITs in the jungle once.

lol that was my screenshot and it was only chain 15 >< ....gogo 5 exp
