Getting Help = Bad?Follow

I didn't think it was possible, but as I leveled Summoner this weekend, 2 times I was put into danger because someone cured me.

Instance 1: Fighting a Rabbit near the stream in East Sauraburata (where the Monument is for Clay quest). A Good Samaritan threw a cure my way, and the rabbit ran toward the guy, Carbuncle followed. I blindly followed while opening up a /tell window to say {Thank You}, I ran right into 3 goblins who were standing right next to the guy. They all aggro'd and I was dead in about 4 hits (the guy tried to engage all the Goblins once he noticed what happened, but engage + swing just wasn't fast enough to keep them all distracted). The guy ended up saying sorry, but I didn't respond because I was mad, and I didn't want to say anything bad because his intentions were good. :(

Instance 2: Fighting in the same area, this time a Goblin, I ready Poison Nails for the finishing blow, and I get a random cure, the goblin runs after the curing party and PN doesn't activate because the mob is too far away. Took me about 15 more seconds to kill the gob under normal means, and took a bomb toss as well. Not as bad as a death from before, but getting help from someone did hinder my progress (as I had to rest to regain the lost HP/MP from the longer battle).

Anyone else ever had something like this happen where they got help from a random passerby and it ended up hurting them in the long run?

I've had helping people like go bad on my end before. I was running to the Crag of Holla to get a choco and happened across a party of 4 getting demolished by an Orc. I threw a Cure 3 to the last standing member of the PT and drew aggro right away. It was at this time that said PT member tried to make a run for it, not realizing he had just been cured. So I had to stand there and take the whiffs and hits till he finally zoned. None of them spoke english, and I couldn't figure out how to auto translate "Hey! Come back and kill your mob!"

Anyway, unless time is of the essence I try to set up right in front of the person I'm helping so as to not put them in any danger. I've been guilty of ******** up special attacks and doing more harm than good in the past.

when i help people, i stand next to thema nd take aggro until the fight is over. if you're going to cure, be ready to take the responsibility of letting the melee finish and staying right where you are.

Well, I'm glad I'm not entirely crazy and you guys can at least see why I felt like it didn't work out for me. :)

I figured someone would just call me an idiot and move on. :D

I was lvling my BST one time killing bombs by throwing pets at them till they exploded. Random do gooder threw a CureIII my direction and instantly stole the mobs attention, as a BST/WHM I really had no way to get the hate back I run at it and started thwacking it with my axe and my pet was still smacking at it but couldn't pull the hate off, called for help because if I didn't the poor guy woulda took a dirt nap.

Something to keep in mind:
Don't cast a spell on someone crafting. There have been a couple complaints on the main forum that I've seen.

haha thats awesome. I only throw cures in places where I am positive I am able to powerlevel someone there. If I'm in East Sarutaburata I'll throw cures all over the place. If I'm by the temple in Yhoator Jungle, I'll run away. :D

This has actually been pseudo fixed. You can't cast a spell on someone if they are crafting. You can however, cast a spell on someone right before they start crafting, and it will auto-fail with all materials lost.

This is something to try on those possible crafting-bots like Claywick. Do it a couple times (be prepared to pay him back for crystal + belt if he is there actually doing the work), and if he doesn't respond and continues to try, then you know he is botting, and you can seriously get back at him for cheating the game. :D
