I haven't posted on any ff forums in so long... But I'm really, really, bored at work... So just a few things ^^; These are just little tidbits that might help some people, or whatnot, heck I d'no ^^; Feel free to ignore this and let it sift back a few pages (I'm just killing time).
Don't like Kazham/Garlaige? You can circumvent a portion of this by having a Teleport-Altep crystal, and it's really easy to get. Just grab a stack of silent oils (or be a 20+ mage) and go from Bastok > Altepa and get the crystal, I'm sure you can find the position elsewhere on this site... But I've been trying to max out war/drk/whm/smn sj the past few weeks, and it's near impossible to build a PT with NA players that all have the crystal. Just take some time out and get this tele-crystal about the same time you do your Kazham keys and save yourself the trauma later ~.~
Elde{tab} Paper for LB1 For the love of all that is holy make the hellishly long walk to the Tele-Vaz crystal and get this, I personally refuse to help anyone with this item unless they can tele-vaz and walk to Batallia, I hate the Jeuno side with a passion and never have as much luck... Also, you can XP fine off Lichs with a decent 47-48ish PT, and you've got a shot at paper then too. Ideally bring a MNK, at 49 a THF/MNK can blow these things up and contribute TH2 to the drop,
Search comments Please please please please please please please please please use search comments T_T; I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate sending ppl tells asking for tnl, if x sj is an option(rarely) or whatnot... If you're out farming while you're looking for a PT carry a warp scroll, and put it in your comment {warp}>{Jeuno} OK... Or whatever, it makes life so easy ^^; I said that once before, but gah I hate the fact I can look at 99% of the jps lfg and see sj availability, tnl, what zones are ok, and then all the E I see are green-dotless T_T; (Search Tab, Edit Comment, Experience Points, I think, to set it).
AF Coffer Keys Instead of standing in Lower Jeuno and spamming shouts for help, grab a buddy or two, form a PT, and advertise for skill ups for whatever LV range you're doing. I don't really know what the ranges are, but as I recall Beadeaux/Oz/Davoi/Zvahl are good for 175-210ish, CN/Boyahda/etc I think capped around 180ish, but anyway... There's a lot of people that want/need to skill up alternate weapons 60+, and its pretty easy to capitalize on this by shouting for skill up pt instead of for direct help (Shouting that you have one and are looking for members, or whatnot). If you have a BRD friend, or are a BRD, make sure you include that in the shout... The last 2 or 3 skill up/coffer pts i saw shout that had a brd... I joined XD... If you do things this way, please note it is in VERY VERY poor taste to call off the skill up party as soon as a key drops. I'd say the avg length of skill up pts I've been in is probably 2hrs, minus when its just "skill up pts" for ls m8s... At which point we just stop/move to another coffer zone when the key drops :P
Casting Lots isn't evil It can be a preference thing, but I personally like casting lots... When I'm exping I don't want crystals, I don't want random garbage, all I want is anything that sells like 5k+ a pop or seals. If you have Japanese players in the PT, trying to tell them they can't cast lots can become problematic as well, get used to the idea of casting lots... It happens, and becomes far far more common later in the game. Unless the leader sets distribution to pooled, at which point you should leave :O! On that note... Only cast lots on stuff you want/need... If you're a whm main(like lvl 62/63 say), and your next highest is like a 45 melee, and you cast a lot on Assault Jerkin and win, you are an ass hat, plain and simple :) It's a nice item, and so are lots of other things you may come across (Moldevite xping off Cockatrice in Onzozo, Othinus Bow off Wyvrenpoacher in Gustav), but if you can't use it any practical time soon, and it's rare/ex, just pass.^^;
[No, I have never ever had a problem with that :P, just heard the angry stories of those who have XD]
Carry around a stack of silent oils/prism powders - You don't even neccessarily have to let your Pt know you have them (if you need to sneak/invis to get somewhere, just get them to cast on you). Just having these can save your/others tails so bad. Bat train goes by in Garlaige citadel, you're close to zone, mage may not have time to sneak everyone, pop a silent oil and wait on the train to pass, aggro is bad :O not to mention if you're walking through someplace like... I dunno Kuftal Tunnel, and your sneak wears in a bad spot with no mages immedaitly handy, you can reapply it yourself and not worry about trainging to Terrigan and killing a few pts on your way :P
This one makes me giggle XD To get back to Kazham from Yhoator go left, right into the tunnel, drop down the first hole you see and go northish, when you come out of that tunnel you walk west a little and then north to get to Kazham.
Castle Oztroja Coffer for non-competitive people - Just get to the top of castle o and send a tell to your friendly neighborhood astral ring picking thf offering them someting like 2k gil to open the door so you can camp the one room with no Yagudos, I mention this because I made 2k gil in such a fashion, and some RDM took my astral and turned it into AF like 20 mins later XD The same can be true when you're doing genkai 3; I didn't see any reason to turn them down and it's really easy to open that door as a THF and not die :P That's just a lil help to get to that room, which is how I hear most non-thf get their AF piece in Castle O, once you get there you can just wait a long long time and it'll eventually come up XD
When someone raises you say in Valkurm dunes.... this used to be really, really, really popular... But isn't so much anymore, it's polite to offer to pay for their choco if they had ot hop off, or give a pie/juice or some such. It's just a show of courtesy since pie/juice is dirt cheap anyway, but it can go a long way. I think now people camp Valk and shout for Raise @ x gil to make money... But whatever, I'd rather HP than pay a whm for a raise (There's a difference, I promise, capitalism vs courtesy or some such.. Maybe its all in my head..)
Food - I don't really know how to word this well, but here goes; food says a lot about a person in a PT, eventually it becomes common practice for everyone ot start using food (Lv 50ish), and you start looking like a gimp if you don't use it at some point... But I don't really know when it is... I just cry or occasionaly give noobs in low lvl pts food so they dont suck so bad XD. Food makes a crapton of difference, but is far more important for melee than it is for mages. It doesn't really bug me if I don't see pies, but if I have say a DRK in my PT, and he doesn't use food, I cringe XD. Lots of people say food is to expensive, and while its not always cheap, its so worth it. If you are better, your PT (ideally) goes smoother, and you get xp faster. If you're tight on the gil, farma little so you can afford food. If you're in a crappy party, just save your food for a good party. I personally use food all the time, regardless of whether i know if the pt is any good or not.... But in my younger days i used to wait until we'd done a chain or two before I popped food so I wouldn't waste money if my pt wasn't any good XD.
No job is a straight out gimp job It's true for the most part, but its espicially true before 60. All the horror stories you hear about say... DRG... just not so much the case at all. Any job that uses 2handed wpns can use sniper rings, and a DRG with snipers will beat out any other job that uses a 2hander that doesn't use them... The same is true in reverse or whatnot... This start to change 60ish due to subjobs/gear available... But if your DRG is in pimp gear, and say your DRK isn't, you shoulda got the DRG :P Please note... after 60 things change... But saying "Don't invite X, he's a Y!"... beh. It is however most unfortunate that I see tons of well equiped drks, and very few well equiped drgs... But such is life~
I didn't really say anything horrifically helpful, but there's a chance something there will surprise someone and help out... Plus I managed to occupy a good bit of my spare time by thinking about/typing that up. This isn't anything server specific, or even anything that overly matters. Thanks for letting me waste time, though :D
If you have differing opionions/don't like anything I've said... Please say otherwise ^^; I won't respond to anything that is obviously just my opinion vs. someone elses, though ^^; (I hope, anyway).
Edit: I realized after I posted this that I'd said "for the love of all that is holy" twice... almost in a row... Mazmaz nailed me for it when he posted... so I changed one ><; I feel so dumb ><;
