The School Safety Commission will be looking into the gun violence in schools, just not guns, according to Betsy DeVos. Which works about as well as looking into why people are fat, but ignoring food. But at least they'll be looking at video games and movies again.

Maybe they could blame the children. They obviously don't have enough rocks to throw at intruders, their aim stinks, and most of them just hide under the desks anyway.

It's not about me telling myself anything. It's about me reading what she actually said.

Dude, she came back and retweeted a defense saying (in meme image form) "People said Trump looks like an orangutan so it's totally cool to say Jarrett looks like an ape".

Yes. Well after the fact though. After someone pointed it out to her that the reference to Planet of the Apes was equivalent to calling VJ an Ape.

They point which you seem to keep missing is that someone had to tell her that's what they got from the reference. Which suggests strongly that that was *not* her intent in the first place. She's responding to how others perceived her tweet.

Quote:
I get it. The conservatives are all worked up about this and you need to try to find the spin, no matter how ridiculous. Whatever. You're pretty much a one man show trying to insist that it wasn't about her looks and "Planet of the Apes" was some reference to dystopian whatever-the-fucks but you gotta do you.

Except everything we know about the chain of events suggests that she did intend the Planet of the Apes reference to be about VJ's ideology and the potential sort of dystopian outcome it might have. She clearly did not make that reference because "VJ looks like an ape", since she had no clue initially that that was how people interpreted her tweet. Her first response assumed they were criticizing her for associating VJ to the Muslim Brotherhood and calling that racist for some reason.

So we can say she was clueless about the association between "Ape" and "black woman". But that's the point. She couldn't have intended that meaning, since she clearly didn't get that meaning or association herself. We can say that this represents not being sensitive enough to the feeling of black people in terms of such associations, and that she should have been more aware of how others would interpret what she said. But what we can't say is that she wrote the tweet with a racist intent. Quite the opposite, in fact.

I wouldn't say "conditioned" or "reject", um... but isn't it even more problematic to run through life constantly associating stances, actions, and politics to people's skin color? That smacks strongly of racial profiling.

What happened to judging based on the content of character and not the color of their skin? I'll absolutely agree with the corollary that liberals make direct association between people's actions, positions, and politics and their skin color. And not just skin color but any identity group they can put people in. This is one of my biggest problems with modern liberal ideology, in fact.

It's what leads someone like Albright to stand at a podium and declare that there's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women, while ironically supporting Hillary Clinton (who did just that and worse with regard to women assaulted, abused, or mistreated by her husband). Nope. Ignore Clinton's actions, and just look at her sex, and then argue that all other people with the same sex must support her run for office. Not because of her politics, ideology, or past actions, but purely because of what's between her legs.

That's what's wrong with the liberal ideology. So yeah, I'm more than happy to be labeled as a conservatives who doesn't do that. Proudly, in fact.

Did you intend that to be a negative thing? Cause I don't see it that way at all.

I wouldn't say "conditioned" or "reject"
"Brainwashed" and "deny" would be more accurate.

Alternatively, you're a liberal who is blithely unaware that he's interpreting the actions and statements of others as "blatantly racist" due to his own innate racial biases, which cause him to view people primarily based on their skin color rather than their actions. I suppose being unaware of that could also bring happiness, so whatever.

I think the more believable claim to make would be that Joph's partisan biases cause him to interpret the actions and statements of others as "blatantly racist". The "actually, you're the real racist" just reeks of grade school level deflection.

I suppose ignorance is more forgivable than knowing something is obviously racist but being more concerned about defending a partisan alignment than admitting to it. So I have that going for me!

The really bizarre thing about this is that any sane person defending Barr would just say "Oh, she had no idea that Jarrett was African-American so while it may have been tacky to compare her to an ape, it wasn't racist". That doesn't require trying to convince people that (despite Barr saying nothing supporting this) she really meant that Jarrett held ideologies from a 1960s science fiction movie about monkey-people and that she, uh, looks like the Muslim Brotherhood? But you're so invested in the fantasy that there's some top secret 2deep4liberals messaging going on here that only Gbaji can decipher that you'd rather keep running with that than go for the obvious defense that Barr set up.

I think the real bizarre thing is that gbaji's entire defense relies on Roseanne being the one person in the world since like ... the 15th century to somehow not know how Africans were derogatorily associated with monkeys.

Off the topic of deflecting for racist comedians and back onto deflecting for criminal activity:
Political Wire wrote:
Special counsel Robert Mueller on Friday filed a new, superseding indictment against former Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort that also charged Russian citizen Konstantin Kilimnik, CNBC reports.

BuzzFeed News: “The superseding indictment — which includes charges of obstruction of justice and conspiracy to obstruct justice — stems from attempts to contact and communications with people identified in a June 4 filing from the special counsel’s office as D1 and D2.”

Prosecutors have accused Kilimnik of having ties to Russian intelligence.

First they get Trump to roll back sanctions against ZTE and now this. I wonder if China is tired of all this winning yet?

No no, just like with the ZTE, 45 gave all that sensitive information to China and any day now is going to get the best deal ever.

Er. Except for the already mentioned Howard Cosell. It's funny how those who don't themselves make associations between Africans and monkeys tend to be the least aware of the derogatory association and therefore the most likely to accidentally make a statement invoking that association while being completely unaware of its derogatory meaning.

Which seems to be the case here. Again, that does not defend her statement (and I've said this multiple times). But the offense she is guilty of is not "being a racist", but "being unaware of racist language". She should have known how people would react to her statement. From her response, at least, it does appear that she just simply wasn't.

If it really was just 614GB of data, then there probably wasn't anything more sensitive in it than what is written about it in the article itself. Probably a bunch of power point presentations or something.

You can't fit the designs for anything more complicated than a paper clip on less than 1TB of disk these days. Forget about actual technical data associated with said design.

I regularly have plans for entire skyscrapers including structural, civil, MEP, fire suppression, landscape and interiors in files under 5GB. I have no idea where you got that idea from.
