Clinton is back at +5.66 based on the ABC/WP, NBC/WSJ and CNN polls released this morning. Decent news for the campaign after last week's more lackluster polling in the wake of the FBI findings.

Edit: I had to look up who in the world Lynne Patton. She is the Vice President of The Eric Trump Foundation. Oh, and she's black so I guess she's there to make Carson look less token because there's no way in **** anyone ever said "You know who would be a great draw for a prime time speaking slot? Lynne Patton, Vice President of The Eric Trump Foundation!"

Also noted: No Chris Christie on the lineup? They have Pence listed so it's not a "playing coy with who'll be VP" thing -- they just don't have Christie slotted.
1. The polls have been bouncing every week. I was wrong about the FBI. I thought that would be a boost, but the criticism that came out of that (to prevent looking biased) was strong enough to hurt her.
2. Hopefully Lynne is less embarrassing to the black race.
3. Sources said that Christie threatened to drop F bombs if he didn't get his way at the previous convention. I assume that he first didn't want to look embarrassed by being a loser. Second, I assume that he wanted more attention than earned.

Since Clinton hasn't announced a VP pick yet, you wouldn't see Warren, Perez, Kaine, etc in slots yet but you can't tell me that Warren won't be speaking and would pas son the opportunity to tear into Trump for thirty minutes of prime time television.
Last week, sources said that Warren was speaking on Monday, fueling the talk that she was not the VP pick.

Wtf? I don't think anyone "underestimated Hilary" in the primaries.
I'm not sure how well you were following the primaries, but the combination of Sanders record breaking crowds, string of multiple state victories and close polls had many people thinking that Sanders had a chance. She outperformed in a number of states.

Lynne Patton is a distant cousin of a high school friend and a embarrassment to her family. Ally says she been trying to be a cheerleader for Trump/Pence ticket and Lynne's republican friends are getting embarrass too at her. Ally is as liberal as I am and says knowing Lynne, her speaking will be a disaster. Ally gets quite catty when talking about stupid people.

My first double post in a long time.

Watching Red Skelton movies, as news here in Baltimore is depressing with another Police officer found not guilty in Freddy Gray's death.

No, seriously. Who goes to New York City and takes a publicity photo about going to Chilis? That's like going to France and blogging about how great the McDonalds are. Then again, this guy is presumably running with a guy who eats pizza with a fork.

But, see, Pence is a Man of the People! He appeals to those whose idea of "going out" starts at Applebee's and ends with Chili's. Maybe TGI Fridays on Christmas Eve.

What about Dairy Queen? Is he good a good choice for people who visit Dairy Queen too?

Just curious, and might be asking for a friend.

Well, considering the GOP's stance on LGBT rights, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he is not a good choice for Dairy Queen patrons

Damn, well so much for that idea. Some people not me, of course clearly need to start enjoying less heathen-filled eating establishments.

I assume because he doesn't want to run the risk of them putting real garlic in the meal, leading to an exorcision.

Wow. That's pretty big. I thought I read that many women were standing up for him. Well, this is about the best time for that transition to happen. It'll get drowned out from convention.

Rep Steve King (R-IA) was on MSNBC wanting you to know that he's "tired" of talking about other races and challenged the hosts to say what the "subgroups" have done that rivals the wonder of White Christian civilization.

So, you know, Lynne Patton might have her work cut out for her.

Trump says that BLM instigates police killings, Giuliani compares BLM to the Black Panthers.

Lynne Patton better ask for a raise.

On the other hand, it's unlikely that Clinton will start her convention emerging from a fog machine.

Melania Trump apparently plagiarized her speech... from Michelle Obama.

Trump can't waste his funds on speeches no one cares about. His campaign funds are dedicated to creating a razor thin veneer of gravitas over Potemkin edifices of power.

And you know what? That's all his base cares about.

True. The problem is that his "base" is only around 35-40% of the electorate and he needs to expand it in order to win.

The GOP est. will vote for him because it's in their self interest for Rep. control. What he needs to do to win is aggressive grab the reins of a populist narrative, and expand his base orthogonal to party lines. I don't think that he will do what it takes to be successful, however. Maybe he can't, there is some calculus that goes into determining the positional flexibility of the GOP power brokers. Maybe they just haven't lost enough elections yet.

The problem with this* vis-a-vis expanding his base is that he comes out of it getting laughed at. This has been the only story all morning and most of it is mockery towards the speech and the Trump campaign response. When you're trying to maintain a "razor thin veneer of gravitas", having your convention news be all about laughing at you is pretty bad stuff.

*Which isn't to over-exaggerate; no one will be looking back at this as the moment Trump lost of course. But it blew his opening convention momentum

Megyn Kelly is saying that Ailes sexually harassed her. At that point, it was "Resign by August 1st or you're fired" -- Fox can't afford to lose Kelly.
