I've no problem with Taco Bell's lunch offerings. They're obviously not fine dining but they're no worse than pretty much any other fast food joint. I do view this particular item with skepticism but I'd so the same if it was being sold by Burger King or Hardee's or White Castle.

But this is the internet, that magical land where no one ever deigns to eat fast food, watch TV, listen to popular music and every supermodel isn't as pretty as the girls in your class/office.

Taco Bell is probably my second FF joint behind Wendys. And there are plenty of both around and I spend so much time driving that I eat them a lot more than I probably should.

I don't eat much fast food. That's not because I'm virtuous, although obviously I am, but because San Francisco has fairly strict rules about how many chain outlets can come in, and where they can set up shop. Most of the fast food is downtown, and I just don't go downtown much.

Maybe that's why this particular thing looks weird and off-putting, I dunno.

Possibly. I think it's probably more that it's fucking disgusting in a fundamental way that's probably hard wired into our genes. Like how the idea of swimming in a pool filled with caterpillars makes us illogically uncomfortable.

I'd think swimming in a vat of caterpillars would legitimately be sticky and uncomfortable, emotional perception be damned.

To be fair, when I was growing up I didn't realize that Beck and Jeff Beck were not in fact the same person. As it turns out I like 'em both anyways.

I think it gets a bit more hate because the potential for negative digestive response increases dramatically when the low quality food you're consuming consists mostly of ground beef and refried beans. It may be cleverly shaped into various forms, and wrapped in different types of tortillas, but we're still talking about mostly ground beef and refried beans. The beans need no other explanation, but even the ground beef is a problem since it's not ground beef that comes pre-made into a patty like at a burger joint, but is cooked and sitting in a bin waiting for someone to grab a handful out and put it into said tortilla with said beans.

I'll also disagree that everything else fast food is just as bad. There are pretty noticeable levels of fast food and Taco Bell is comfortably on the bottom, along with McDonalds and Burger King (and pretty much any nationwide chain). Mid tiers tend to include more regional chains (although some have become national over time) like Carl's Jr/Hardies, Wendy's, and Jack in the Box. At the top are places like In and Out. There really is no comparison.

If it helps though, if I had no choice but McDonalds or Taco Bell, I'd choose Taco Bell every single time. I place McDonalds into a special place of horribleness all by itself. But that's just me.

There are no Carl's, Hadiess or Jack-in-the-Box around here but if you're putting Wendy's in their category then they're not much better. I'll admit that they're better but not enough to invalidate my previous comment.

The worst fast food I ever had was in a Wimpy's off a motorway. I don't know how a chain ends up with a name like that, but the fries were soggy and limp in a way that matched the name and ****** little logo almost perfectly. Talk about a hard brand to sell, though. If I was in their marketing department, I'd shoot myself.

There's some decent fast food in most big cities, all the national chains I know of are **** as **** and, assuming Wimpy's is no longer in business, I wouldn't bother distinguishing between their quality.

I gave into curiosity and googled it and apparently it's still going. Also it's south african, so I was probably being racist by making fun of the name. Oh well.

I would assume that a burger chain named Wimpy's would be named after this guy.

Wendy's is really the only fast food we eat. I'm not sure if it's quality or the value proposition of "ok, 5 99 cent cheeseburgers will feed us for almost nothing and not be awful" Probably the second one.

Well, kinda that and kinda that there aren't a lot of fast food places where I can get a baked potato and a side salad.

Never tried the Wendys salad. Kind of just assumed it was the "produce" that was meant for the sandwiches but was going out of date.
