I think I figured out why some men think they deserve to earn more than women on the job. They are the same men that use that money to pay attorney fees for sexual harassment claims.

If this is true, it is further proof how awesome she is as Wonder Woman.
It's good of her and all, but Lynda Carter is still tops. Ellen Page, and Anna Paquin corroborates, says that Brett Ratner harassed her during the filming of X-Men: Last Stand. I believe it because everyone that just saw Last Stand was pretty offended. Being involved had to be worse.

I believe it was debunked, WW didn't make the ultimatum, just some good ole fake news.

On a more accurate note, we have another killing, at another school, this week it was in CA.

Got it covered.

We're finally at a point where people are just copy-pastaing their condolences for these shootings, and forgetting to change the city's name.

A while back I had posted about the hard-to-make decision about being a living kidney donor for my Grandmother. They had gone through her children, then started her grandchildren. My brother was in the same boat and he was being counseled on the whole process and what it would mean in his life moving forward. He had the same misgivings as I did about it.

Then late last night they found a kidney (dead organ donor, I assume). And she had to go to the hospital very early this morning to begin the process. Does kind of interrupt the holiday plans, but it was just going to be my immediate family and her anyway, so not a lot of people to reschedule.

It kind of feels wrong to think "Thank God, now we don't have to worry about making that living donor choice." But it is a relief, not having to worry about it. Now we just have to wait and see if it takes, but that would be true of the living donor situation too.

(I mean, obviously congratulations on her finding a kidney and you and your family not having to be harvested for it and such.)

I'll keep an eye out for any post-operational evil tendencies that may appear.

Edit:
She made it out of surgery, apparently all went well.

I also learned that apparently they do not actually remove the bad kidneys. That the new kidney gets put in some empty pocket below the existing kidneys above the hip? News to me.

All goes well she'll be out of the hospital by Friday. Which strikes me as very soon.

Ah yes, the conservative belief that blogs are facts.

Facts are facts. A blog is a place someone writes stuff. Which, you know, may contain facts, or may not. In this case, the blog is from the ACLU, on their web site, and specifically comments on a position it took regarding the issue in question. One can assume, therefore, that it's pretty factual with regard to the ACLU's position on that issue. Cause... it's their blog page.

I do love how you ignored what was written and who wrote it, and instead just zeroed in on the fact that the word "blog" appeared in the url. Not surprising really. You are at least consistent in your wacky ways.

It's an admitted peeve, but it annoys me when reporters overuse the word "alleged". It's like they have the whole CYA thing drummed into them, and are not quite bright enough to figure out when it's not appropriate to use. All charges are for "alleged" crimes. That's inherent in the process.

While we're at it, all accusations are also allegations. You don't have to say "he's being accused of allegedly doing <whatever>". I see that all the time too. Bugs me every time.

Seeing as the charge is the allegation, you'd think they'd not do that.

Um... Except the fact that the ACLU supported the repeal of the law which put social security recipients with mental disabilities into the NICS. You know, the actual fact that I was pointing to in the first place, that both the NRA *and* the ACLU agreed to said repeal. You said that wasn't a fact, I pointed to the ACLU site as support.

What about this is hard for you to grasp? I said the ACLU supported the repeal. The facts say that the ACLU supported the repeal. Seems pretty darn straightforward to me. I win. You lose. Yay! Smiley: grin

The starting failure of that study was the ludicrous assumptions about what makes one a Conservative or a Liberal in the first place. It's just as silly as their studies showing that liberals become more conservative when they feel threatened (like, say, after 9/11 when many self identified Democrats supported military action against terrorists). Reacting to a threat doesn't make you liberal or conservative, it just makes you human. In the same way, being less worried about something that isn't a threat doesn't do the opposite. Again. Human nature.

IMO, what makes one politically Liberal or Conservative in our modern western context has nothing to do with specific likes or dislikes, or even positions on issue, but how those positions are derived and how we act on those positions.

Conservatives tend to be means focused. How we do things matters. What rules are in place. Whether they are fair. Whether they make sense. Whether they accomplish the purpose. Those are the things that matter to Conservatives.

Liberals tend to be more ends focused. What we're trying to do matters. What problem we're trying to solve. What actions we take. Whether they result in solving (or at least reducing) that problem. Those are the things that matter to Liberals.

This is why Liberals and Conservatives can look at the exact same thing and come up with different answers. A great example is Affirmative Action. Liberals will look at an inequality of college degrees by race, see this as a problem, and solve it by tweaking entrance requirements to colleges to increase the numbers of otherwise under represented racial groups. And they will likely solve (or at least reduce) the problem they've identified along the way. Conservatives will look at the same thing, but argue that tweaking the entrance requirements it the wrong method (how you do things matter to them). They'll disagree with AA because they believe that artificially adjusting the numbers doesn't actually solve the underlying problem. It just masks it. The rules should be the same for everyone.

It has absolutely nothing to do with whether you are afraid or not afraid.

Clearly we have triggered the fear response in this gbaji in the wild. One of the more (only) interesting thing about the gbaji is that they have no proper fight or flight response, when the primal brain detects fear, it's fingers move rapidly in a random manner across the nearest keyboard, which is not a totally useless defense mechanism, as most predators will get bored, and walk away. Now, let's see what happens when he sees a female of the species...Oh, I'm being told that we have run out of time, join us next time on Wild Kingdom.
