I've known a fair number of people who've used psychedelic drugs and I've never heard of a single one experiencing this. No real point except that maybe your source(s) of information isn't accurate, or is overly focused on the assumptions they want to promote. Dunno. I'd stop at "people's minds fill in the blanks with all kinds of crazy stuff", and move on.

And BTW, I've personally experienced some pretty strange and arguably unexplainable stuff. I just happen to arrive at a similar position as Smash, via the opposite path. Some things in this world just are unexplainable. Trying to codify and quantify them is likely to be a waste of time.

Right, like racism, or gun violence, or poverty, or gender equality. All giant mysteries we'll never understand.

And here we learn that Smash has a hard time grasping the difference between "some" and "all".

Oh, sorry. My mistake, could you explain the causes of those things to me, please? I assumed you held them as unknowable.

Oh boy, I am on the edge of my seat, awaiting what is sure to be a completely insightful and unique examination of sociopolitical issues.

(ノಥ益ಥ)ノ ┻━┻

That is the most honest explanation right there. The universe is filled with things humanity will never know because they don't seem to affect our immediate daily lives. It is a waste of time and effort if its implications are not instantly discernible-- if it does not make money in particular. At this point, we will continue to try and fit alarm clocks into things that have already been invented instead of trying to come up with something new.

I get the feeling we will never again have a real space program. There will never be any new breakthroughs in physics because it's getting too scary and weird for us, or does not fit neatly into our unbreakable and unchangeable system of laws that have done well to bring us to this point, but now act as shackles and inhibitors. Stem cells? Phhh, Waste of money. The Koch Brothers need another oil line built.

Meatloaf dinner with 2 scoops of mashed potatoes called the *****-tits Bob instead?

What? Isn't that the root basis of science in general?
- There is something unexplainED (we cannot know what is unexplainable.. only what is unexplained.. though we can know WHY it is unexplained)
- We observe the unexplained condition and then we attempt to codify and quantify for the purpose of compiling data to research
- We take the results and adjust them as our abilities to observe things evolves.

To say that this is likely to be a waste of time simply because we have no answers and cannot be bothered to take any leaps of faith is just asinine
You are discounting that there is an answer solely because you have seen no answer that fits with your opinion and limited view-point. It doesn't mean that there are no answers nor does it mean that we are unable to receive the answer.

It's self willed limitation. As I said: the truth is that the chains that bind us within Plato's cave are chains of our own making.. based on our own fear of the unknown. All that binds us to these changes are our own fists clutching onto the womb-like comfort of ignorance.

I thought the statement, in it's original form, was just being facetious.

Attempting to make sense of universal unknowns is what our species does.

Some of them, or all of them?

This isn't working as a joke because it's simply not at all plausible that I don't understand the "some and all" thing, and also the small point that it was in no way incorrect or confusing when I used either term. Just so you are aware. No one is quietly chuckling at your cleverness.

Try these, maybe:

"The sum of them? "
"I'd need an awl to make a point to someone as hard headed as you"
"Sounds like a battle of the Somme"
"Some of a *****!"

Etc. Or maybe just prat falls and hitting yourself in the face with pies. Honestly, I can't really think of a way to make your monotonous droning funny, but I guess you'd have to start with the fact that you're a drooling simpleton and try to work with that.

I am reminded of when I was about 7 or 8 and first noticed the phenomenon of Pareidolia.
I was driving in one of those late 70s vans with fake wood paneling inside of it.. and I noticed that everyplace that I looked in those false wood patterns all have faces of the most vivid details that it seemed like some artist sneaked in and secretly painted the portraits of a hundred different faces...

I thought to myself.. "what is the meaning of this"?
In my mind it was either... These are actual faces somehow making themselves known to me... OR.. Something else...
I make the conscious decision that it must be 'something else' even though I had no idea what that something else must be and was content to leave it at that.

The fear of ignorance is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
