The Rosetta Space Orbiter was launched over 10 years ago by the European Space Agency. It just successfully landed a probe on the comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko.

Pretty amazing.

The comet is Eastern European/Russian, there was probably some radiation involved.

Those plans are in jeopardy without the primary weapon, they still have a drill though, and that's the important thing right?

They're still waiting on Steven Tyler to write the theme song.

Well, obviously you can't blow things up without a theme song. But we could just use this one:

Tyler got his rock song already, it's Mick Jagger's turn.

It was the animal crackers prancing across his and Bruce's daughters breasts that truly made the world savable.

xkcd has been doing an updating comic on this. Here's the flipbook version from the beginning.

Edit: Well, you need to actually hit the arrows back to the beginning then forward through some blank pages. You'll figure it out.

Heh, I caught some of the end of that by accident. Was wondering if they'd have it all up somewhere at some point (or if it was up somewhere and I had no idea how to find it...)

If a comet sings in space does anybody hear the comet sing?

Lots of data coming in from the occupied comet.

Here you can hear some sounds?

Quote:
Of course, sound waves can’t travel through space, so it isn’t a direct audio recording. Instead, Rosetta’s Plasma Consortium (RPC) picked up variations in the magnetic field around the comet, due to interactions between 67P/C-G’s coma and the plasma from the Sun, better known as solar wind. These variations resulted in frequencies between 40 to 50 millihertz, about 10,000 times lower than can be detected by humans. ESA scientists altered the frequency of the comet’s song into human hearing range, and discovered it was a series of clicks that are very reminiscent of Predator’s growl.

Here's a vid of Predator's growl.

Well, that's a shame. Man, I can only imagine the frustration of working with those time frames in such a technologically sensitive field. You shoot some late 90's era tech out into space back when flip phones that could clumsily play Tetris were considered cutting edge and then get its results back on your iPhone 6 or Galaxy 5 or whatever.

Perhaps if they had played more Tetris they would have landed the thing properly.
