I must say, I absolutely love how history only occurs in four year blocks, and how one block in no way affects others blocks.

Yes. Turns out, however, that those are STAGGERINGLY important differences.

Not really. It is clear that hoi polloi are going to believe whatever they want to hear based on whatever makes them feel good based on whatever ideology they have swallowed. That's never changed so has nothing to do with the character of whatever president is serving; so it's a given.

Equivocating regimes because neither one solved all the problems is intellectually dishonest, lazy, and frankly; really boring. We get it.

You have a valid point. No way am I talking about salving All the problems.. of course.. What I am speaking to is the definition of what the problems actually are and the methods and motivations employed in the pursuit of solving said problem.. and the lengths that will be gone to in order to employ said methods and motivations. Has it always been this way? Sure.. but when it gets exponentially worse generation after generation.. and if you know any history whatsoever.. it's kind of hard to ignore the puppet strings once you spot them, isn't it?
It's like watching a favorite movie after seeing the "making of". Makes it harder to suspend disbelief.

Quote:
Presidents can't radically alter the glacial flow of the entrenched bureaucracy and the realpolitik or modern life. No kidding. Welcome to what most people realize at 12 years old.

Honestly, It was about when I started in this forum that I started actually paying attention to this ****! You taught me how to politic Asylum!! Back when I actually could possibly believe that people in such positions as the 'powers-that-be' are in could have an agenda that was anything aside from satiating their own lusts for power.
Do you think for a moment that I actually place blame on individual people for not solving problems? No no no

While I do think that this has been since the human race.. I believe that at this point in history that the stakes and much higher then they ever have been because of the capabilities that we have in every area of life(and death) .Those that have hedged themselves off from the majority of the world simply build their towers-of-babels higher and higher and higher and as this occurs they rest of the world is getting sucked dry from it and humanity with it.

What fascinates me is how to people take this stuff so seriously as if you can trust or believe any thing that any body says or actually really know what is actually going on? You people seem to have more faith in government than I have in God.
It MUST be a matter of true desperation and deep deep denial when you actually believe have the things that are spoken of here.. Or just for the "lulz"?
I guess it's a matter of preference.
Admit to ones self that slavery still exists in a very big way and that you are either owned or an owner.... OR <insert-delusion-of-choice>.

Wow, that's some pretty mighty pulpiting for someone who trumpets about how humble he is.

Admittedly, I take politics more seriously than religion. Politics, however sincere the efforts are reality, god - not so much. I have to pay taxes to the government - it's in my best interest to stay informed - even if I'm being lied to (though being a public servant myself, I'm not real keen on the whole government is false generalization).

Desperation? You may want to believe that, but it's just reality dude. Live it or leave it.

There's actual evidence that a government exists, and some occasionally even do things other than demand tribute. Though faith in either is pretty detrimental to all involved so it's a wash.

If I have ever boasted to how humble I am.. well I will gladly chew on my own foot and lick the cheese from between my toes.. because that would indeed be retarded.
However.. dwelling, in spirit, in the presence of God is quite humbling..

Well! I appreciate that you are honest. That's pretty much what I was guessing. That you do not care about what the truth is as long as you are being fed something.
But how can you call this "reality"? Should I just blindly believe in lies to the point that it becomes reality for me or do you mean that I should stay informed of what, exactly, the lies are that I am being told.. and then go on to pretend they aren't lies?

crazy, man, crazy

Yes, I am being fed something - a society. I have a community that supports my social needs, a state that insures we're all some what educated, we have feds that keep the commerce coming.

It is what it is. I'd be a fool to think that every law-maker is 100% honest in their motives or their promises. I'd be every bit as foolish to assume that our governance is always false and always delivery untruths.

I don't think you know as much as you think you know. I'd trust my Congressman to make decisions for the greater good, before I'd trust you to.

They aren't. Only hubris would lead one to think so. Hubris goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall, and all that. Anytime that you think there's a magical urgency about "right now" or "you, individually" or the like....reconsider.

Arm em kill em, arm em kill em, arm em kill em, and so on and so forth. Been going on this way since early AD, easy economic driver for countries who are losing a grasp on their Empire, Rome did it, Byzantines did it, Ottomans did it, British did it, and now America does it.

Nonsense.

Does this NOT, falsely, presume that there could/would never be a time when the results of failure(or success depending who you are) that would would exponentially cause more damage/evil/desolation than in a previous time because of the actual growth of human society through time?

If the Ottoman got it wrong.. then who suffer? A bunch of Armenians, and Assyrians... oh and some Greeks..
Big deal, Right?
During the "cold war".. somebody gets it wrong.. who suffers? Perhaps the world.. perhaps just some Slavs... maybe some Asians?.. some Latinos? meh
Now do you think people have their **** together any more than they did 50 years ago? We now have the ability to do a great many more things than 50 years ago.. by way of technology.. genetics...warfare.
I'm not saying people need to be afraid of any of this.. I'm just curious that this seems so far fetched to people.
I'm sure Mongol hoards seemed far fetched to a remote village until it happened.
Of course it likely will not be that sudden.. slow enough for people not to notice.

I think perhaps I agree with most here in terms of inevitability. The question is what is really best for people and what is best for some people.. always has been.

Gee. If only we had some document or set of documents which discussed the differences between punishment (especially capital punishment) by a sovereign nation and its citizens, and treatment of civilians by a party to a conflict in the region where said civilians live then we could clearly see how absurd your response is. Oh wait! We do.
Ah. So if the Saudi's decided that their new form of capital punishment was to sever your arm and beat you to death with it that's cool because "sovereign nation"?

Well, to be fair, you'd probably end up bleeding to death long before you died from being beaten.

No, it does not. The vast, vast majority of the world cares not at all about the Middle East.
