Yeah, but guys have always pretty much been that way. You don't see a lot of heavy women wearing "No Fat Dudes" tee shirts.

I think guys do it more out of an unrealistic perception of what they look like. As in "Eh, I'm carrying a few pounds but I'm in pretty good shape. Pass me another six pack of beer." or minimize their impact "Eh, I'm just more cuddly this way".

Women, a select number of them anyway, go the other way with the "You must ACCEPT AND WORSHIP my pounds because they make me a WOMAN!"

Also, white people be walking all like this but black people be walking all like this. I think we're breaking down some real walls here.

Did you follow the link at the bottom to the article about the lawsuit she lost? Kind of explains it all.

Huh, I didn't know that he wrote for Sarkeesian. I feel sort of bad now because I've said many times that Sarkeesian needed to get herself a writer because her own writing sucked and here it was someone else's writing that sucked all that time. [TheMoreYouKnow.jpg]

So not only does she need a writer, she also needs to work on her ability to discern quality.

Some people just try to be everything. Can't she choose just one thing to fail at? Smiley: oyvey

That must of sounded a lot better in his head. So did he just blame Star Wars' popularity on gbaji or what?

My interest in Sarkeesian pretty much begins and ends with threads about Sarkeesian and I don't much care how "rich and famous" she is or isn't.

But I've said several times that I thought her videos would have massively benefited from professional writing and narration but I assumed she wanted to be the star of her own work. So I found it noteworthy to learn that she wasn't doing the writing (or not solo, anyway).

Pakman has a couple new interviews either GG related or GG-adjacent. I haven't watched either yet and won't be doing so until tonight, though I hear that Vox Day, who is pro-GG, came off like our very own version of Arthur Chu. Haven't heard much on the C.H. Sommers interview yet.

I haven't seen a lot of heavy men wearing those t-shirts, either, and the ones I have, well, I just assumed they were wearing the shirt ironically.

I don't know, it seems like all of this feminism, sexism, and gender equality stuff is meant to act as a label for people to to stick on their "cynical ***-hole" attitude, making it socially acceptable, or even commendable, for them to lash out at others for no apparent reason.

One of my female friends posted one of those generic "Love Your Curves" Wordpress articles on Facebook, and I replied with something like: "If you feel bad about being overweight, why don't you just eat less, or work out a little?" The next 20 comments in that post was me trying to fend off an angry mob of complete strangers calling me a misogynist and a sexist for daring to suggest that slightly overweight wasn't the ideal weight.

They take everything as a personal insult, and then they just ****-ing run with it. Like Forrest Gump on crack cocaine. It's tiresome.

Okay, I get that. But for the last... I dunno, fifty or sixty years, women's weight has been everyone's business. There's been a certain judgment attached to it.

Without having read the article your friend linked, was it a "love your fat self" article, or a "stop tripping on someone else's ideal of feminine perfection" article? Because for decades the emphasis wasn't on being healthy, but on being thin.

I'd extend that to just about anything involving women has been everyone's business. That kind of recreational criticism is like humanity's second favorite pastime.

I think that some people become overly sensitive to this though and assume that when someone suggests diet and exercise that they must be imposing a stereotypically unrealistic ideal on them. But in many cases it's not. I obviously don't know the specifics of the above case, but it was framed as "if you feel unhappy about your weight...". I guess I just don't see anything wrong with suggesting that there is a medium between "unrealistically thin" and "give up and accept being fat" (ie: learn to love your curves).

And yes, I'm well aware of how social pressures around women do create a "ridiculously thin or bust" situation. And that in turn leads to the "give up if you can't be super thin" idea. I have a close friend who is struggling with this very issue and it's always difficult to even broach it. I've seen her go on diets and try to maintain the petite figure she had for most of her life as a young woman. But she can't, so she gives up on even trying. Result is that she's been ballooning over the last few years to what is almost certainly an unhealthy weight for her. I remember the last time I tried to gently suggest getting back on an exercise regimen (and not snacking on chocolates), and she said "what's the point?".

It's a very tricky situation.
