They conducted the study on a game where you rape, torture and murder 10,000 women but, because it was in Germany, the game was changed to make them all grey-blooded androids.

No sexism!

'Us' in this context is the GG rabble, not gamers as a whole. The study literally has no relevance at all because it's about a completely different group.

Or do you understand any feminist criticism of games, either in particular or individually, as an assertion that gamers are all sexist? That's a rhetorical question, obviously, I know you do.

Let me paraphrase: If you don't think games make you sexist, then ironically, you're the most vulnerable. I could pull up one of the "gamers are over articles" if you want. I seem to recall that was more or less their gist.

That's a considerably narrower phrasing than the original.

More importantly, one can consistently believe:

1) That games in general are sexist.
2) That the media affects belief and can serve to reinforce or undermine societal norms.
3) That gamers are not more or less likely to be sexist.

For example, if one also believes that 4) video games are generally sexist in an absolute sense, but not significantly more sexist than other forms of media e.g. TV, film.

Well, I guess he must then renounce Lord GabeN, say four Hail Anitas and three Geoff Keighleys.

I kept meaning to ask if you had seen that, but they've changed access at work such that I need to figure out how to be able to get to this site again. Edit: Not that one. I meant the Spider Gwen one.

Also, if anyone's interested, there's some stuff going on with the Hugo awards that SJWs seem to think was done by GG. Edit: It's even complete with a bunch of suspiciously similar articles coming out all at once. Smiley: laugh

Leigh seems to be implying otherwise. Here's an article calling misogyny "pervasive". So, it doesn't seem unfair to infer that some of these people are, in fact, saying that sexism is more prevalent in gaming than in the rest of the world.

And I'm going to bed because I'm on vacation and that's all the time I'm willing to spend arguing with you right now.

I don't know what is going on with CEOs lately. It seems like a new trend where CEO take up some social causes. I kinda get whatshisname that replaced Jobs since he has a personal stake in this, I was somewhat amused by Salesforce, and now this.

The most amusing part is that it is a win for the company ( we don't negotiate, whatever the drones from HR figure out you will swallow, you WILL swallow ) although I am not sure it will be such an easy sell for anyone who is competent enough to be able to negotiate little smth smth.

We come up with an offer that we think is fair. If you want more equity, we’ll let you swap a little bit of your cash salary for equity, but we aren’t going to reward people who are better negotiators with more compensation.”

Does that really solve it though? If men really are better and harder negotiators, they'll just take the jobs elsewhere that allow them to leverage themselves into a higher paying job, and then lesser skilled negotiators (and the womens) will be stuck at the lower paying, non negotiated, Reddit salaries.

It does not. It may move things in an interesting direction for the companies though. Maybe we could move to 'first offer better be best offer' by companies ( yeah, I don't see that happen either ).

Even then though, the way this CEO worded it, would make it sound like men are less likely to accept lower salaries and more likely to value their skills higher, meaning the HR would have to pitch higher salary offers to the men if they really wanted them to work there.

On the flip side though, if you really think about what the she said... she basically admits to underpaying their women employees, because they can, and women don't try harder to get more.

Which really points out the issue with the 78 cents on the dollar statistic. And how "equal pay equal work" pushes don't really solve the problem. (But sounds good in sound bites).

She's a hot(*) Asian in a technology company, she secretly loves the neckbeards worshiping her as a goddess. Can't actually alienate them...

(*)I'm a little biased, since I do find Asian women attractive, but going by the picture she's easy on the eyes. Again, it's easy for an Asian woman to be so. YMMV.

I saw the original in passing a few times and didn't think much of it. It's really his rebuttal to the reaction over it that's fun. A nice little overreactionary headbutting before the real firestorm starts in June.

I take the "goddess" approach where I weigh 450 lbs and demand a perfect physical specimen as a partner who will appreciate my curves and heft as being the mark of a REAL man.

No, they just read romance novels and watch Twilight. Same ****, different method of expression.
