I resent the implication that I would ever be caught doing something like that.

Holy crap. While I disagree with his tone, this guy gets what many of us in Gamergate have been saying for a while. If you want to end Gamergate, the moderates in GG have to win. You fix ethics in journalism and we go away. Without us, the movement crumbles. Hell, we'll be the biggest group beating down the remnants who want to continue their mayhem. Hell, we already kind of are.

But that would be bad for Gawker, so you know it won't happen.

If for some reason you can't access slate at work, here's a bit of quote(only a paragraph, but an important one), though you really should read the whole thing. It has some great pics that just can't be linked.
Quote:
You can see the moderate psychology on display in the two posts below, by trans lesbian gamer Sophia Eris and an anonymous Gamergate member, respectively. The dynamic is not male vs. female but consumer vs. media and victim vs. bullies. The moderates feel that they are unjustly maligned victims, and that Gamergate is their unfortunate port of last resort. It is possible to change that feeling without a cost to diversity and inclusivity in gaming and society: a non-zero-sum solution. The moderates started to fall into the movement’s self-reinforcing narrative when gamers en masse were deemed “obtuse ******************** “misogynerds,” and other epithets in a dozen contemporaneous “gamers are dead” articles; every inflammatory comparison and slur since then (such as Gawker editor Max Read calling Gamergate members “neuroatypicals”) has boosted their numbers. Apologize for these exaggerations and they will start to fall out.

Normally, I'd have just edited this into the last post, but I don't want to dull the message in there by burying it among other things. So here's TB responding to Salon's hit piece on him and other youtubers.

A great quote wrote:
And here we come to the core of the matter. Completely inaccurate reporting by Salon.com. The scandal came and went they said. Oh did it? Well if they'd done even a little investigation, they'd have found out the following.

1) The scandal was uncovered and revealed by me, a Youtuber who believes in the core ideals of Gamergate, "I condemn harassment, I support women in gaming, I am against biased and corrupt games journalism".

2) After only one or two traditional games media sites showed any interest in covering it, I passed information along to Jim Sterling to set him up to do a Jimquisition on the matter. This included all of the contract terms that I had uncovered in the course of my investigation. In short, I am his source. Why did I do this? Because I unfortunately know how games media works and how oblivious a lot of them seem to be to the Youtube space which has so rapidly grown past them in terms of size and influence. I knew that in order to blow this thing up in traditional games media, I would need a traditional games media person to do it. What better person than Jim? He has one foot in either camp and a lot of experience in the industry. Unsurprisingly, after his Jimquisition went up on the subject, games media sites mysteriously started picking up on it. Imagine that! Kotaku, Forbes, VG247, Cinemablend, Gamerheadlines, MCVUK and so many more. They will listen to the man with the website, naturally.

3) After exposing this deal and putting my own future dealings with Warner Bros PR at risk by doing so, the issue was in fact resolved. I have now seen copies of updated Plaid Social agreements in which the problematic terms have been removed. Why is there no ongoing scandal? Because it got fixed, that's why. Plaid Social were caught in the act, exposed and revised their contracts. This of course, should have been the job of games journalists, but had Youtubers not been transparent, they'd have never even known about it.

4) A minor point. Hilariously, Internet Arisocrat created a video satirising the whole Mordor situation, but since he is a horrible monster according to some, his video was obviously ignored in favour of the 79 view video the writer somehow managed to dig up. Well on the bright side at least that guy gets a few extra views. IAs video has 54,000 views.

5) GAMERGATE DIDNT TALK ABOUT IT. Oh no wait, KiA was full of posts about it, my bad. It was discussed regardless of it not having anything to really do with games journalism, because hey it turns out that people interested in Gamergate are interested in ethics within the industry, even if they aren't directly linked to games journalism.
Bolding mine.

From the very beginning, he never claims to be unbiased. Hell, the subheader calls us a "toxic movement".

Anyway, another interesting thing. Someone's claiming to be selling Internet Aristocrat's real name and address. It appears that a journalist either retweeted or favorited it.

Edit: While it relies on the "Gamers are basement dwelling ******* losers" stereotype for its joke, I have to admit that this was actually kinda funny. Certainly better than those ham-handed "It's actually about journalism ethics" ones.

I don't think there is a public consensus. I could ask ten people at work tomorrow about Gamergate and get nine blank stares and one demand that I get back to work.
People here know, because it was NPR the other day or something, and now they're the experts on it because they listened and became enlightened.

Nope, although it's freezing every night now, and I've seen little snow flecks up high from my window.

Where are you from again?

Shit, by then I'll have forgotten about Gamergate...

The other piss-and-vinegar thread I was mainly following on this has turned into "Was Spec Ops: the Line 'fun' or not..." Someone better hurry up and Tweet a death threat (don't actually do that, people)
