No. It's what I chose to call a potential victim of a potential crime in which gender is potentially a factor. Smiley: grin I wasn't sure how to phrase it.

Anyways, what I meant to say was i think it's more the crime and not necessarily the gender that causes people to be believed or not and sex crimes are more often against women.

I owe myself a new game. Gamers Gate (the store) has The Cave for 15 bucks (or for 15k blue coins) - same price as Steam.

Anyone played it?
I bought it on a PSN sale, I think. Or maybe it was something else, but I think that was it. Never played it, but I own it. For a dollar.

As for the Utah claims here, since the threats were sent directly to the school I really see no reason to doubt that they were made (however realistic they were). Assuming otherwise means believing not only that Sarkeesian sends out false threats but also that she decided this time that instead of sending threats to herself she would threaten a university with a mass shooting.
Yeah. Regardless of what I believe in other cases, I'm willing to believe that there's a 100% chance that someone sent threats to the school. Whether it was an actual angry person(gamergate or just generally someone who dislikes the woman), some troll who is ******* with both sides or someone on the Anita side(with or without her knowledge), I'm unwilling to speculate on at the moment. Whomever it is, they need to be ************** arrested.

I think that statistic breaks down as soon as you include prison rape. And I think it's a lot closer than you might think even without that.

They won't be, of course. Anyone who isn't a complete retard can easily send anonymous emails on public wifi without being caught (or use proxies, etc). I'd expect the number of these incidents to only increase since they get a reaction (Sarkeesian cancels) and are effortless to make.

Sure, but most rapes/rape accusations aren't media circuses, so it's not all that important. Even fewer than wind up on Tumblr.

Can we all agree that gamergate has become too toxic to accomplish anything productive & move on? Or do we still have folks that think it can accomplish something that isn't terrible?

Of course, and I think people realize that. Which is why it's important to ****-shame as much as possible, that way no one will believe them. For whatever reason that doesn't work quite as well against men though.

Always was. Their game journalism corruption **** has always been a farce; see, for example, the nonsense attack on RPS based on a nonexistent article. I doubt we can all agree this is true, though, and so the thread continues.

I agree that gamer's gate is worthless as far as enhancing ethics in gaming journalism or social justice for girls and gays in games.

But, what is there to move on to?

Well, I'm on the side against death threats, which I'm certain most of the posters on here are also on. So I don't even know what we're fighting about besides the speculation as to whether or not the woman who got the death threats made it up, earned them, or deserved it.

My comment was tongue-in-cheek ("Hey, let's all agree the other side is wrong and move on") although I agree that nothing fruitful is going to come from the Gamergate banner.

On the other hand, the next time Sarkeesian shits out a video talking about how Ms Pac-Man is the worst thing for women since the stiletto heel, I can guarantee that those who disagree with her will get the "Gamergate! Misogyny! Death Threats!" treatment.

Not exactly a leap, wasn't that her MO pre-gamergate? (Minus the "Gamergate!" since that wasn't a thing).

Fun fact: I got called a "pathetic passive aggressive gamergate apologist" on another forum for linking to that story about that CoD dev getting death threats and how it's fairly common in the game development world. Smiley: laughSmiley: laughSmiley: laugh

I should note that I linked it to directly in response to someone else asking if this sort of thing was new. It's not like I was saying "Everyone stop talking right now because..."
