There must be some way to track planes to keep them from going missing??

This time it's an Algeria plane that was traveling from Burkina Faso to Algiers with 116 people. Apparently the plane disappeared somewhere over Mali.

Plane has been confirmed as crashed by Algerian Official. Possibly downed by sandstorm occurring in the flight path.

If the sandstorm is even a quarter as intense as the ones in Kuwait, I can buy that.

Googling Mali Sandstorm gives me this.

I could see a plane disappear in there.

Crash them into apartment buildings.

I would think commercial airliners would be flying well above sand-storms.

I think it depends in the flight. 110 passengers isn't a lot. Probably one of those smaller 3 seat or 4 seat row planes. I think the smaller flights fly lower. I know my flights around the US fly through rainstorms where you can see nothing but darks clouds and water out the windows. I'd imagine sandstorms reaching similar heights.

The one time I flew across the Atlantic it was pretty high though. Bigger plane. Longer flight. Higher flight.

Edit:
Here's a video of a sandstorm hitting a passenger plane.

And...I'm officially fatigued of caring about this now. Apologies in advance to anyone I know who dies in a terrible plane crash.

I am already bored with the endless stream of news about the crash in Ukraine and two thirds of the people on that plane had the same nationality as me so I should care, or something. At least it's better than the news about the 2 girls who went on a day long walk in the jungle in central america somewhere without a guide, got lost and died. Not sure how that got to dominate the news for months.

I bet they were blond and pretty. Pretty blond girls are a huge draw for the media. Though I never heard about it, I take it they were of your ilk?

Yeah, they were Dutch, no idea if they were pretty and/or blondes but they were young and the news was full of how their families still had hope and whatnot.

Can I get a pizza instead? My only options for pizza at the moment are two delivery places, one of which is mediocre and overpriced and the other seems to think that a pizza isn't a pizza unless it's covered in half an inch of oregano.

The entire list of pizzas they have on the takeaway ordering website has oregano as an ingredient and the one time I ordered from them my cheese pizza tasted more like oregano than cheese.

Now imagine that being the second best option you have for pizza. And neither of the two places has the decency to cut the pizzas into slices or uses those plastic thingies in the middle to keep the lid from touching the pizza.

The sauce must be extremely cheap, and they're using the oregano to cover the lack of taste. You should just make your own if there aren't any other options.

Should.

It's also a great way to keep a 5-year-old busy, if you ever find yourself in a tight spot.

I've considered buying one but since I don't plan to live here for very long it feels kind of like a waste if wherever I end up next does have an oven.
