You guys really don't remember when gas stations charged differently for cash vs credit? Good lord, I'm old.

I see a lot that still do for large diesel purchases, all around Kentucky and Southern Illinois on 57. I didn't see many if any in Michigan. They offer discounted prices to truckers, if they pay cash instead of using cards. I'm wondering if the 75-100 dollar limit applies to them too, and when they fill up their tanks they have to run their card multiple times (multiple fees, etc.)

I remember. But "remember" implies that it's no longer the case.

Nah, most of them use ComData cards ( limit is set by what you or the company you work for loads onto the card, not the gas station). Also, fully loaded those trucks are only getting 5~7mpg, so 75 bucks worth wouldn't even be worth stopping for, especially when you consider that the average truck holds 300 gallons.

I started driving in 1977. I remember gas lines and the valuable lesson I learned about putting my feminine wiles to good use.

Still a thing around here. Also: in New Jersey there's still no self serve gas stations. I think. Because Mafia, I assume.

The gas stations had to limit the times they were allowed to pump gas. Iir (it was a long time ago) twice a day they'd open the pumps for two or three hour blocks. I was only able to get my gas a couple times outside of those times as I served coffee at the local Perkins to the gas station guys.

My ride was all my own. Smiley: wink

It's weird, which is why I always send other people to fill up the vehicles.

I still get confused when random dudes run up to my car while I'm pumping, and I realize "Oh, I'm in Jersey today"...

The gas-pumpers have turned this thread sexist.

Girls can pass gas too!
