The headline is just too much.

I've not yet read the article.

All I'm getting is a giant headline about UKIP.

He's got this pulling out stuff down. His timing is spot-on. He's now the good guy. Got it?

The HP Headline says....

PUTIN PULLS OUT.

Is your internet being diverted?

edit - more correctly the headline 'asks' PUTIN PULLS OUT?

Before or after he finished?

Analogy is apt, there's no reason for him to push it any farther. He's got Crimea, Ukraine is destabilized and falling into in a mini-civil war of sorts, and he's fortified his support at home. He's already won in a sense. The current status quo is good for him, he basically did the same thing in Georgia.

Worst case scenario he can get involved again if he needs to. His hand will only strengthen in the coming months. The cold of winter increases his leverage, and an outstanding bill against Ukraine gives him justification for any fiddling with the gas supply. The world will have moved on from this to other more interesting current events. The U.S. will be distracted by the midterm elections and a lame duck congressional session.

He protected his assets, showed his neighbors what happens if you don't play nice with him, and is happy to let a corrupt Kiev government flounder under it's own ineptitude, at least for the moment.

Yeah, I get the UK version. It's kind of inaccurate to call pulling back from the border 'pulling out', but hey. Anything that sets us up for a Putin sex joke.

Even better than "PUTIN PULLS OUT" are the associated subheadlines "White House: No evidence of withdrawal" (ew) & "Pentagon: We would know".

Apparently the Canadian government is in cahoots with Putin and is trying to hide all media associated with him.

Clearly we should have stayed in and finished the job.

And then have someone else deal with the consequences.

When you're involved in a situation but pull out before the job is done, you've dishonored the memories of all who came before you.
