The ground fishing industry is big in these parts, and dangerous (Lobstering is a walk in the park in comparison). We seem to lose at least one boat a season.

I bet. They should try fishing in the water instead.

A friend of mine owns some fishing factories (farmed pools). He's lost a fair few workers from fish jumping into the net pullers and smashing them into the murky depths. It's not just boats lost at sea.

Aren't truck drivers one of the highest death rate forms of employment?

Not the highest, but pretty high. Highest number of deaths though.

The job sucks to be sure. Truck driving is often just an avenue for folks with no college or specialized skills to be middle class instead of poor.

I like to think "fisher" is primarily drunk rednecks.

Almost all the categories are "drunk rednecks". Have you see a roofer? Bonus question: have you seen a roofer who wasn't smoking and drunk? That's trick question, obviously.

Hell, I smoke and drank with my buddies when we replaced the roof on my mom's garage. And we're not even professionals.

My older brother is known for working drunk and/or high, when he does work. These days it seems he takes the money for a job and then spends it on liquor and drugs. He also spends a lot of his time in jail. I know he lost his contractor license years ago.

He started off as a brick layer and then spent time as a truck driver. Soon afterwards he got the contractor license and did housing, roofing and then the drugs became the focus of his life. Though just over 2 years older then me, he looks 20 years older and has ruin his health to the point that he doesn't expect to live much longer.

Th back wall of what was my parents house is bowed starting from where he and his partner started to feel the effects of the beer they were drinking as the lay the bricks.

That sounds a lot like my wife's father; just throw in a stint as a rock & roll roadie and a few suicide attempts (the last being successful).
