Penciling in increases for the next 5 years seems silly. Just peg it to inflation already so your state can move on to more important matters and stop wasting political energy debating how many pennies the poorest make.

I've recently been hearing about Seattle trying to raise their minimum to $15 per hour, among other similar stories. It's good to see people aren't just standing around and waiting for the federal minimum wage to go up. Now I'm wondering what kind of ******** will be scrambled together to quietly stop them.

Yeah Seattle has been under a good amount of pressure since Sea-Tac put through their increase a while back. IIRC the Sea-Tac bill is in a big fight right now over whether or not the airport (which is the major one for the Seattle metro area) is included in the city and has to pay the higher minimum wage. Given the airport employs (either directly, or via the shops there) a lot of the minimum wage earners for the city, it's a priority for both campaigns to fight over.

It'll be interesting to see what Seattle ends up doing in the end, as they set a lot of the precedent for the State. A victory in Seattle for the $15 minimum wage means they'll likely get it on to the state ballot within a year or two.

Isn't it it's own city? Or something? I know nothing of Washington local politics.

As in Sea-Tac and Seattle? Yes they're different cities.

As in Sea-Tac and the airport thing, well it's basically this.

Awesome! By 2018 it should only be about $3 below what it should be...
