It's a pretty vague study.

Their definition of troll is vague but narrow.

Quote:
As defined in the article, online trolling is "the practice of behaving in a deceptive, destructive, or disruptive manner in a social setting on the Internet with no apparent instrumental purpose."
So, as opposed to cyberbullying, saying nasty things during an argument over politics or even making hateful comments that reflect the commenter's true feelings, trolls are offensive for the sheer enjoyment of it. Or, in Internet parlance, "for the lulz."

There are trolls and then there are Trolls.

Another expert not knowing what trolling is, which is probably why a game forum janitor gave it any validity.

It would be possible to construct a solid study to support or disprove the statement. This isn't it.

Yeah, that tends to confirm the results rather than otherwise.

Trolls are nice people too, they are just misunderstood. How would you feel if you had to live under a bridge because society decided that since you were not aesthetically pleasing, you were to be cast out? What if every damn time someone uses your bridge, debris and horse crap falls down through the cracks into your living room and no once seemed to care? Sure as sh*t, you'd be a little grumpy and force those who crossed to pay a toll to help with the cost of maid services and upkeep.

Just sayin'..

Nice try spammer.

What the @#%^ did you just @#%^ing say about me, you little *****? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the @#%^ out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my @#%^ing words. You think you can get away with saying that sh*t to me over the Internet? Think again, @#%^er. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re @#%^ing dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire ******* of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable *** off the face of the continent, you little sh*t. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your @#%^ing tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will sh*t fury all over you and you will drown in it.

Bring it on, *****.

I'm not too worried. Mr Internet tough guy spammer may have been attempting to proxy his posts, but he kind of forgot to have the proxy running at account creation time. Even more special "Dan" decided to use his real name in his e-mail address. Which he created from his Distributel cable modem in Ottowa Canukistan. Which by the way, Death threats kind of violate their acceptable use policies. He's also very prolific with his online information, and luckily he provided his legitimare e-mail address for some stupid reason, so I can not only tie that information back to him, I pretty much have his address, phone number, etc. Everything short of his bank and dental records. So yeah, I don't think Noodle will be bothering us again.

If trolls are bad people, what does that make the ones who hunt them for a living?

The first time, yeah, a little.
