School has been closed here since yesterday for a snow storm that arrived last evening. It's a relative term depending where you live. Here in my part of NC we got about 3 inches of snow. News stations are warning everyone to stay off the roads today because we have a significant lack of plowers and sanders. Instead, half of my town drove to the local park to go sledding, myself included. ***** staying indoors when "snowpocolypse" hits! We grabbed the sleds, homemade cocoa, and hit the hills!

Xavier has been officially dubbed a southerner, despite being the oldest and remembering winters in MA. Within 10 minutes he was freezing and whining. He's warming up in a bath right now Smiley: oyvey But the other two had a blast, making snow angels (first time for Soren), sledding, and just being kids. We were out for hours this morning.

Roads are slick, and I'm pretty sure school will be cancelled tomorrow. How about the rest of you? Anyone get snow where your normally don't? Having fun?

ETA obligatory photo of Soren's first snow angel making

Probably because everyone else I know in NC/SC calls Cary "South south Boston" At least 11 people in that town were born south of New Jersey.

That's pretty accurate. Cary stands for Containment Area for Relocated Yankees Smiley: sly

We're still stuck in autumn, it's finally getting a little bit cold with temperatures around 0°C (32F) today but we've had no frost to speak of yet, I've barely worn my scarf and I haven't bothered to locate my gloves yet. Instead it just rains and rains and rains, it's ******* depressing.

It's only 48 degrees here, and it's only supposed to get up to 57 tomorrow. Smiley: frown

But by Sunday it's supposed to be 80 again.

We're finally getting some good rain here. We've been a bit on the dry side, though nothing like what California is dealing with. Hopefully we get enough we don't have to hear about water shortages all summer.

Still, playing in the snow does look like fun. I hope you all are having an awesome time.

The sun is that bright thing we saw last summer when it wasn't raining, right?

Yes, yes I do. Will you drive my icy commute, too? Because that would be particularly awesome.

I've had only one or two days this winter above 20. Most of the days have ranged from -20 to 10. And we've had precious little sore to go along with it, which seems a waste.

Seriously. That said, I've learned to understand why they freak out over that fluffy white stuff falling out of the sky. They're literally not equipped to handle it since snow rarely happens. Plows don't go anywhere near secondary roads. We don't have salt trucks. We have Brine trucks (which is really weird and practically useless).

The amount of snow we got last night would not have made anyone blink back north. But here? School is out for at least two days, possibly tomorrow too. Jokes on the kids though. They have to make up the snow days on Saturday Smiley: lol

NJ has been seriously slacking with the winter preparations this winter. We HAVE the equipment, but it's like someone forgot to budget any workers for it. It's never been this bad before.

Every single storm, it's like we're shocked it's snowing. It's getting old, fast.

Ineffective government response...in New Jersey?? Inconceivable.

Mine had out a couple days for the cold more so than the snow. Which I guess makes sense; while it probably wouldn't kill the kid to be outside waiting for a bus at 6am in -12F weather, I'm not sure it'd do him any favors either.

I wound up staying home myself yesterday and playing Magic: the Gathering against my kid which was sort of funny as I hadn't played in 16+ years. He was introduced by a friend recently and then bought a "deck tool kit". In new player fashion, he put all of his "best" cards in a deck without rhyme or reason. I suggested whittling down the color scheme, he shrugged, I made a white/blue deck out of his leftovers and trounced him three times in a row* and he left saying he was going to check out my deck and see how I made it work. Sometimes you gotta learn by experience.

*Hardly bragging of course since there's not much to gloat over beating your kid who has played twice.

Hannah beat me at the Pokemon card game the other day, so now I don't play that game or acknowledge it's existence.

The pokemon card game was surprisingly good when I played it about, uh, a decade ago. I don't like the rules bloat you get in long-running tcgs, though.

So, wait, that means you add 2 bloat counters to your quarter tapped card and then turn it another during each players upkeep unless it's marked unbeatable in which case you pay ax2 + bx + c = 0 * colorless mana in upkeep or bury the card in the graveyard unless you have on orange socks in which case you ********** an elephant.
