So, while you were whiling away the day looking for Easter eggs, this guy was discovering the physics underlying the genesis of life.

I didn't attempt to read all of that but I found the bit about Darwin interesting since Darwin didn't attempt to explain the genesis of life, only what happens to it once it's rolling. He makes that pretty clear in his writing. Seemed odd to have that caveat included in the article.

I noticed that too. Seems like an odd thing to have asked him, but then it's journalists talking to physicists and there's very little overlap in their world views.

Take a system like our planet, give it a constant input of energy from something like the sun, and the complexity of the molecules will slowly but steadily increase over billions of years. Life, or something akin to it, is virtually inevitable.

It's the idea that's been slowly but surely catching steam over the years. I'm guessing he did more than what was glossed over in the article and had some kind of mathematical proof of concept? As they seemed to be alluding to something like that.

I took the sentence literal and was wondering just how gonzo you'd have to be to hide eggs from kids and end up finding them like half a year later.

Have heart, global climate change should make us more efficient blobs of bio-chemicals.

It will be interesting to see some of the experimental results.

I can't wait for the day the general population comes to understand that life is not a miracle, or something that happens by some coincidence or impossible sequence of events. Maybe then all of those magical "creation" theories can take a rest. Then again, this opens the door to the idea that "life" is all around us when every day objects such as snowflakes are shown to exhibit these energy dispersing characteristics.

The "life is a miracle" thing first got debunked when Wohler discovered he could make urea crystals in a petri dish.
