According to LinkedIn, 20% of my professional contacts have new jobs. Does that seem high to you?

I should go through them and see how many are billing themselves as consultants.

I think it's a glitch and they get a new job any time they tinker with their existing job profile.

It could also just be a new title at work.

After my last place of employment folded, I noticed a whole lot of new consultants in my LinkedIn contacts list as well. Funny how that works.

I'm guessing people still use that thingy?

5 applicants for our latest job opening, only one lists any kind of web presence.

What should they list? Their Facebook page?

I guess it depends on what kind of job you're going for, but aside from listing "programs I am proficient with" and including the web browsers I can use, I don't exactly send out my LinkedIn, Facebook, MySpace, and Google+ profiles during my job search.

I had guessed I'd see more of it. Thought that's what everyone was doing these days? Heck if I know. Maybe I need to read less internet.

I guess science types tend to have a list of publications if nothing else.

That's true. And it's why I said it depends on what job you're applying for. I thought I remembered you doing science, but I couldn't remember for sure.

Me? I'm applying for Admin Assistant positions and MT, so my prospective employers don't need to know about my Zam account or that I like to read webcomics. ;)

Even if you don't list your profile, any employer is going to Google your name to see what comes up. If you share a name with a serial killer, you might want to save them the Google trouble and just link to your actual FB profile at the start.

My maiden name was shared with exactly one person, who was the manager of a woman's softball team in CA. My married name is common as dirt and there are several hundred name-clones.

My sis-in-law and I share a name. Leads to all sorts of fb confusion.

About 44% of my former coworkers seem to be scrubbing stoneghost of personal identifiers, and getting plastic surgery. Used to only be about 35% annually.

Your ability to understand my jokes is meaningless to me.

Amazingly not. Like pretty much all "web 2.0" sites, though, once it went public it was pretty much time to pull the parachute (aware you don't pull the parachute, just like the visual better than rip chord).

Does not seem high to me. I would worry if none of my contacts were in new roles, that would mean a dead economy.
You did not clarify if they are in new jobs in the same company or a new company.

Most have moved to new companies, which is normal enough in tech. Just seemed like 20% was fairly high, considering I have hundreds of contacts.

I wouldn't have noticed it except LinkedIn pointed it out. "Congratulate so-and-so on his new job! 20% of your contacts have new jobs."

Edited to add: nor did they define what they mean by "new". I took it to mean within a year but really I have no idea.
