"Odd" in that I was just quoting from IMDB. I dated a Russian Jew once though. She broke down all the barriers by bravely living in Skokie.

I appreciate your "Illinois ****" softball, but I will show great restraint and wait for that to come from a more organic place.

Huge fan of that show as a child. Kind of ruined "The Shining" for me, honestly.

Don't worry, McDonald's might hire him to sweep up a little if that goes through. But then you have to worry about his declining grades from using that as an excuse to not do homework.

And just to point out the blindingly obvious, and the slightly less obvious of padding my count, Beardy McHillbilly didn't lose his wittle freedom of speech. He said what he wanted, and it got published. Dealing with the fallout is a humorous in this instance consequence. Bet he wishes we didn't have that pesky freedom of the press thing.

I don't see it that way at all. I'd bet he's banking ( literally) on freedom of the press. Sure, his comments offended a lot of people, but those folks probably didn't and wouldn't ever purchase anything related to this man ( including watching the show). The only difference is now some of them will be temporarily pissed off whilst not buying his stuff.

On the other hand, those that do support him probably already agree with him and now feel vindicated, which will spur them on to purchase even more of his products.

IMHO, Freedom of the press is going to be nothing more than free advertising for him. He may be offensive, but he ain't dumb.

While your point is accurate, lolgaxe was targeting the right wing who claim that his freedom of speech was violated, when in reality 'twas his freedom of speech that caused everything.

Right, worked for Paula Deen.

Oh wait, no. No, it did not work for Paula Deen. Because it's an idiotic idea to presume the additional PR value is greater than the resulting loss in revenue. There is such a thing as bad press, contrary to what you may have heard.

There is such thing as bad press, but there is a difference between this case and Puala's case. Mr. Duck guy said something that a notable percentage of people believe in the context of religion (not so much with the "Happy Negro Times" history rewrite). Paula's situation (which I believe was overreacted as well) said things in the context of racial superiority and not in the context that many can relate to.

In this case, A&E took a gamble in thinking that their move would prevent the lost of viewers, but ironically it did the opposite. I think this will only increase support for Mr. Duck guy because I doubt many of the offended groups even watched the show to begin with.

A&E has more than one show though. They did it to prevent losing viewership overall, not just for the one show.

The show itself will go on and this guy wasn't even fired just "suspended".

You're absolutely right, but everything that was said was already assumed in the context of the show. I don't think anyone needed to read that article in order to know his beliefs. So, if anyone had a problem with A&E showing Mr. Duck guy, it would have been a long time ago.

The best move would have been to release the same response message, but keep him on air as is. Given the fact that it's the most watched something or another on cable tv, I would be more concerned with its viewers than other shows.

If they're anything like me, they've spent zero seconds thinking about his beliefs before this event.

Im sorry but having read what this guy said, he is basically dictating laws of the bible...sorry that the laws of the bible don't line up to the laws of society...guess the separation of church and state is doing quite well.

I only know of this "scandal" second-hand but Rush Limbaugh was saying the other day about how this guy went on about (paraphrased) "how could any guy be more interested in an **** than a ******?" which isn't in any Bible I've ever read.

Anyway, "separation of church and state" has nothing to do with this. This is a purely secular/business issue -- did the guy you make a show about say something that upset enough potential audience that their viewership is worth more than his show value? Whether they were upset because he was quoting the Bible, quoting Shakespeare or calling Sarah Palin a cunt is immaterial.

Never heard anything about that. I don't follow this show...GQ or Rush Limbaugh so basically all the information I had on it was contained in little blurbs linked here and on my Facebook from friends. Haven't seen anything pertaining to him talking about vag and ****...but im not saying it didn't happen..

I just have a limited number of @#%^s to give each day...and I wasn't going to waste them all on some Redneck being booted off his sh*tty *** TV show for a bit.

Someone elsewhere (probably many someones) were having fun with Sarah Palin calling that MSNBC guy evil and despicable and her PAC demanding he be fired, but this Duck guy getting suspended is "an attack on free speech".

What loss of revenue? Sales of his duck stuff will go through the roof this Christmas, as his customer base supports this "fine Christian man". It's all relative. His customers do not see this as bad PR. If you're selling merchandise for team A, offending team B isn't going to hurt you. Your argument only works if there's a significant number of folks on the fence. I believe that in this case there simply isn't. Anyone that would boycott him over this was never going to buy deer killing gear to begin with.

And of course next season is in the can, so he'll be back on even though he's officially suspended. By the time that's over, this whole thing will blow over with one of those "I'm sorry if my correctly held righteous views offend you sinners" non-apologies.

I'm waiting for one of these too, especially since it seems the family is apt to cancel the show if he's not included.

Either way the current season is already shot, and starts in less than a month. I'd imagine Mr. offensive guy is already in those episodes, and there's nothing they'd do about that. That gives them time for this mess to work itself out.

Nah, it won't. They're too big for there to be any benefit from this. They didn't need the publicity, no anti-gay people are going to suddenly buy their things who weren't already, a good many average Joe Consumers are going to hesitate now to buy the joke calendar for a friend because they don't want to offend someone. The brand is too big and too wrapped up in the personalities. The timing also couldn't be worse, well I guess November 20th would have been worse, but it's not good. This isn't ChikFila, and I'm sure this won't impact sales of their (as I may have previously noted really awesome) duck calls. It will hurt sales of the personality brand, just as Paula Deen was hurt by her idiocy.

NPR reported that a lot of people are returning the "Duck Dynasty" Monopoly or whatever that they'd bought people for Christmas presents.
