China and U.S. playing chicken at sea while everyone else waits to see if they'll fight over what's left of the N. Korea. Anyway that's not what this is about. Here's what the issue really is.

Quote:
The incident last Friday, which was resolved peacefully, was the latest sign of tension around recent and aggressive Chinese territorial claims in the region involving international waters and expanded airspace.

Vice President Joe Biden last week pressed Beijing over the issue, which stems from a longstanding dispute with Japan that has grown tenser.

Several U.S. military officials confirmed details of the incident on the high seas involving the USS Cowpens, which has just come to light.

Seriously?

Who names a ship that? Have we simply used all the good names and this is what we're left with? Maybe it is time for a military downsizing if this is a problem. Or is it names after someone or something? Because, it's great to honor people and what not, but that's even more disturbing if there was an Admiral Cowpens at one point.

ETA: Okay, it was a battle. Point still stands... Smiley: disappointed

Anyway I suppose as long as China doesn't sink the USS Chickencoup we'll be fine... Okay, I'm done now. Smiley: rolleyes

It's the intimidation factor. "We have so many ships that we're reduced to naming them **** like 'USS Cowpens'".

It's named after a battle. Which, I assume, involved fighting somewhere the front rank didn't really want to kneel in. I'm just guessing here though.

Battle of Cowpens during the Revolutionary War. A battle we lost if you consider we still have to claim South Carolina as one of ours.

Straight. **** off and let me post. It's not true, it's all in good fun. Now go away.

I assume Alma was making a funny.

I almost made the same joke about "What A Man", then wasn't 100% that it was a S-n-P song and then lost interest

+1

I like the name Cowpen. If you syllablize it as Cowp-en it's kind of noble.

My agency has a vessel named the Netepenawesit. That's too much name.

It's not amusing enough unless they launch cow patties from the cannons

Why cow patties? They must have the power to launch whole cows.

That is a shame but imagine the look on the terrorists face moments before they're hit by a flying cow!
