I guess I'd heard the word used in it's new context - probably on tv or something. I didn't think it that popular.

Some other new words of note...
Quote:
The term beat other buzzwords including “twerk,” the sexually provocative dance move that got a huge boost in usage thanks to an attention-grabbing performance by pop star Miley Cyrus; “showrooming,” the practice of visiting a shop to look at a product before buying it online at a lower price; and “Bitcoin,” the digital currency that gained widespread media attention.

I bet batcoins gets more hits on this site than bitcoins.

What should be Zam's Word of the Year?

I have a small collection of old dictionaries. I keep the Oxford Universal Dictionary as proof that Elne is a actual word meaning Strength, Courage and some time in OE (ellen) zeal.

It's still Twunt.

Could your provide a definition and use it in a sentence.

I'm personally interested in the difference between a twunt and a cnut?

I actually use on line dictionaries all of the time. I use google for spell check because I suck at spelling and no matter how bad the variation of the word that I use, most of the time, the real word will come up. That isn't so true in dictionaries.

I honestly don't think you know what the word means. Concise, in this case, isn't defined by the number of words.

con·cise
kənˈsīs/Submit
adjective
1.
giving a lot of information clearly and in a few words; brief but comprehensive.

I'd say concise means EXACTLY that.

Yes, but you're wrong since it doesn't mean what Alma feels it means.

Come on man.. You have to know me well enough by now to know that I would have looked up the word before making that post! I did just post that I use dictionaries all of the time by the way..

Since, you bit, let's go.

That definition does not contradict my point, but I'll use another definition that will explain my clarification better in less words. see what I did just there.

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/concise wrote:

Being concise isn't marked by a NUMBER of words, but the ability to say more with less. A 20 page report can be just as concise as a 2 liner if they both maximized the information said with the least amount of words. The take away, which you and Aethien are overlooking is that not everything can be explained in three sentences. As a result, not everything that is longer than three sentences (or whatever your reading limitation is) violates the concise principle.

You would have to provide an example to get the best answer, but it can mean a lot of things.

Most of the comments are insults, questions, "you're wrong", etc., with no explanation. There is a difference between short and concise. Having short posts don't translate into value added posts. I use many techniques to reduce post lengths, i.e., combining quotes, "see above", "post x", etc., I even got banned *partially* for multi-posting short posts and was told to edit it all in one post. Admittedly, I have been verbose in the past, but those techniques are in place to combat that habit.

Still waiting on one of your value added posts. Unless the value added is someone to mock, in which case you sir, are quite excellent at adding value.

The amount of useful information provided doesn't appear to be as linear.

#26Almalieque, Posted: Nov 21 2013 at 3:57 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Just in this thread, I clarified the definition of "concise" and demonstrated how "short" is not the same thing as "concise". This was the thought of some and I corrected it. Value added.
