Who's ready to invade another Middle East country looking for WMDs?

Hurray!

They're like two or three years early to be starting the "clear evidence of chemical weapons" stuff up.

Won't be a ground invasion a la Iraq (and it looks like Syria actually has/used chemical weapons). Likely air strikes, no fly zones, maybe logistic support on the ground for the rebels but I'm not sure we trust them that much. Enough action to say we did something, not enough to bog us down.

Ranked #32 in output, between Australia & Thailand.

From what little I know, they have oil but they've peaked in production and are working on diminishing reserves. I believe they're more valuable as pipeline real estate.

We can raid their supply of hookers on the way to the oil.

Meh, not worth it then. Just keep things off balance for as long as possible, so Hezbollah and Al-Qaeda spend time killing each other and not us.

Can't go worse than a ground invasion of Afghanistan, right?

It's okay, everything is upside down there so they fall up instead.

Australia is a desert too but they have many more dangerous animals. It would be a disaster.

Not flying, just falling up. It's totally totally different. Just don't fly over them.

"Strike" what, though? Aleppo? Damascus? To what end? There's no benefit to the US or anyone else (except, perhaps Iran) to further destabilizing Syria. The subtext is that THE US WANTS ASSAD IN POWER. It's in our interest. So that's going to be the case, long term. I guess you could gin up some ******** "chemical weapons factory" (that won't actually exist) to fire a cruise missile at? It's important to remember that unless you can almost immediately decapitate a wide swath of Syrian military leadership they have a very real and trivial response to any action via the Golan. Then you have a real war you really don't want. Wouldn't be surprised to see harsh language be the weapon of choice here.

I heard it would probably be nothing but Tom Cruise missiles and the obligatory SpecOps training militia. [text redacted]

Obama's ****** either way - he can't do nothing & taking Assad out puts the rebels in charge which we don't really want either. Guess we'll throw some missiles at something that doesn't really matter so Assad will know...we have missiles?

Sure he can. He's not required to continue the doctrine of the US acting as World Police arbitrarily. Odds are good he actually will do nothing. Not as likely as a small air strike somewhere, but still fairly good.

He drew a red line. He could ***** out & do nothing, but I doubt he does. Latest I'm hearing is:

Quote:
The strikes would instead be aimed at military units that have carried out chemical attacks, the headquarters overseeing the effort and the rockets and artillery that have launched the attacks, according to the options being reviewed within the administration.

Link. Also has some stuff about some intercepted calls.
