Weekend MoxieFollow

I've been invited to the Moxie festival this weekend. I don't really like the soda one little bit. It tastes like an unrefined cheap generic cola. But festival's are always fun.

Doing anything exciting, illegal or immoral this weekend?

Going to a conference where I'll discuss ways to chop things up, suck out their proteins, mix them with various chemicals, and perform voodoo on large stacks of numbers.

So none of the above.

Maybe not illegal, but there's got be at least some morally questionable element where voodoo is involved.

I get to yard the left side rear axle out of my car and replace it with a not screwed up one all weekend. That and the other depressing job crap stuff that I am ignoring. Also, I shall make waffles!

Pity you're so far away. I could fix that in an hour, assuming your differential isn't damaged.

Trying not to drive on the wrong side of the road again...

We go out for breakfast every Sunday morning as a family thing. I almost always get a skillet but maybe this weekend I'll get some waffles.

Differential is fine I think. No noticible issues with it anyways. It's one of those rear wheel drive axles where the axle itself contacts the bearing. it's just old and worn enough on the axle that it was able to move enough to damage the axle tube seal, resulting in a really fun gear oil leak. Near as I could tell when i did the right one a year ago, the gears in the differential itself all looked clean and sharp with no worn or chipped teeth or any excess play. Last time it took me about 4 hours, 1 hour of which was trying to get the brake disk to separate from the old axle, another was trying to retrieve the roller bearing from the old bearing that exploded while i was removing it with the bearing puller and rolled back down the axle tube. That was fun. Magnet on a stick worked eventually though! I should have replaced both of them at that time, but I talked myself out of it somehow. Definitly wish I had access to a frame lift for this though heh.

That would be foolish. Waffles are inferior to a skillet. You'll regret it all week.

Tare invited our fam to a pizza party last night. A great time was had by all, kids chasing fireflies until they freaked out when we heard a scream that Tare said is their local bobcat =)
Tonight I'm supposed to go to a cook out, but that might be up in the air. My BF from high school is looking to move down here from MA, and she called me yesterday from VA asking if she could come down for a night to check out the town house next door t me thats up for lease.. If she gets here in time, we'll all hit the cook out. And Sunday it looks like Im going home shopping with her.

I'm looking at apartments all day, moving again in September. Some of the stuff they say as "selling points" is really absurd: "Water and trash included in rent!", "Conveniently located just minutes away from the bus!", "fitness center with one treadmill!", etc.

My car has a rear axle again. Took me a while this time because I couldn't get the damned axle retention C clip out. After I got that figured out, things went much better. It turns out part of the failed wheel seal was wedged between the axle housing and the axle shaft endplate. once i worked around that i was able to get the axle in far enough to pop the clip out, pull it, pull the seal and bearings and axle, and put all new goodies in. Seems to work so far.

Well, Saturday I got a new phone (HTC One) and spent half the day cleaning out my car. Yesterday we went down to my wife's mother's for a family cookout - her sister's family came down from upstate for the first time in a few years. I discovered the joys of kayaking out on Lake Oscawana.
