I buy my hot dogs from a butcher who makes them on the premises. Since I've started buying those, all the store bought brands, even the "premium" ones taste like monkey ****. A fact I know from my time as a monkey fluffer for monkey **** movies back in college.

Only if you buy the cheapest hot dogs you can find. Personally, I buy the 100% beef in the natural casing, sure they cost more, but you can definitely taste the difference.

Just hotdogs? Boiled. I really don't care for the grilled flavor on a hotdog.

Brats gotta be grilled though, preferably all the way on the grill, not par boiled then grilled. But if someone is doing the par boiling to save time, I won't really complain.

I don't see deep fried as an option. Why do you hate the Heartland? We grilled some on the new firepit, which worked surprisingly well for the other things we grilled. I don't eat hot dogs, I'm a Northeast Liberal. My Arugula and Belgan Endive came out splendidly though.

I voted for steamed to represent the local method. In practice, I don't really care which way.

On a stick over a fire is the most fun, but they inevitaby end up with one side charred black.

Around here it's poppy seed or go home. Which must be a regional thing; almost all the image hits for "poppy seed hotdog bun" are for Chicago style hotdogs.
